Sonographer
Position Summary The Sonographer is responsible for performing high-quality diagnostic ultrasound examinations while ensuring exceptional patient care and safety. Working under the direction of the Diagnostic Imaging Manager, the Sonographer plays a vital role in obtaining accurate diagnostic images, maintaining imaging standards, and supporting timely patient diagnosis and treatment in a fast-paced healthcare environment. Previous experience with Cerner and electronic health record (EHR) systems is required.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform diagnostic ultrasound examinations in accordance with physician orders and departmental protocols.
- Prepare, position, and monitor patients throughout imaging procedures.
- Obtain high-quality diagnostic images for interpretation by radiologists and physicians.
- Explain procedures to patients and address questions or concerns to ensure comfort and cooperation.
- Maintain accurate patient records, imaging documentation, and reports within Cerner and imaging information systems.
- Ensure compliance with imaging protocols, infection control standards, and patient safety requirements.
- Operate and maintain ultrasound equipment and report equipment issues as required.
- Collaborate with radiologists, physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to support quality patient care.
- Prioritize workload effectively while managing routine, urgent, and emergency examinations.
- Participate in quality assurance activities and departmental initiatives.
Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited Diagnostic Medical Sonography program.
- Current registration with the appropriate regulatory body.
- Minimum one (1) year of recent sonography experience preferred.
- Mandatory experience with Cerner and electronic health record (EHR) systems.
- Experience performing abdominal, obstetrical, gynecological, vascular, or general ultrasound examinations.
- Strong knowledge of ultrasound procedures, patient care, and safety standards.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
Pay Rate $52–$63 CAD/hour (depending on experience and location)
