The Wash Bay Attendant is responsible for safely and efficiently cleaning heavy-duty trucks, trailers, equipment, and shop-related vehicles. This position plays an important role in maintaining a clean, professional appearance of customer equipment and supporting the service department by ensuring vehicles are properly cleaned before and/or after service.
The Wash Bay Attendant is expected to work safely, follow company procedures, properly operate wash bay equipment and cleaning products, and maintain a clean and organized wash bay and surrounding work areas.
Key ResponsibilitiesVehicle and Equipment Cleaning
- Wash and clean heavy-duty trucks and trailers.
- Clean exterior surfaces, wheels, undercarriages, frames, and other areas as required.
- Remove dirt, mud, grease, road salt, oil, and other buildup using appropriate cleaning methods and products.
- Use pressure washers, hoses, brushes, degreasers, soaps, and other cleaning equipment safely and properly.
- Perform interior cleaning when required, including sweeping, vacuuming, wiping surfaces, and removing debris.
- Identify and report any visible damage, leaks, missing components, or other concerns noticed while washing truck
- Follow specific cleaning instructions provided by the supervisor.
Shop Support
- Assist shop personnel with moving vehicles and equipment when required and authorized.
- Prepare trucks for mechanics before scheduled repairs or inspections.
- Assist with general shop cleanup and maintaining an orderly work environment.
- Keep wash bay areas, equipment, drains, floors, and surrounding areas clean and free of hazards.
- Dispose of garbage, debris, and waste materials appropriately.
Safety and Environmental Responsibilities
- Follow all company health and safety policies and procedures.
- Wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including appropriate footwear, gloves, eye protection, hearing protection, and other PPE as required.
- Follow proper procedures when handling soaps, degreasers, chemicals, and other cleaning products.
- Read and follow Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and chemical handling procedures.
- Operate pressure washers and other equipment safely and according to manufacturer instructions.
- Maintain awareness of slippery surfaces, high-pressure water, moving vehicles, electrical equipment, and other wash bay hazards.
- Follow environmental procedures for wastewater, chemicals, oils, and other contaminants.
- Immediately report safety hazards, spills, damaged equipment, or unsafe conditions to the supervisor.
- Participate in workplace safety meetings, training, and inspections as required.
Equipment and Facility Maintenance
- Inspect wash bay equipment regularly and report maintenance concerns.
- Properly clean and store hoses, pressure washers, brushes, tools, and other wash bay equipment after use.
- Keep chemical containers properly labeled, stored, and secured.
- Ensure wash bay drains and work areas remain clear of debris.
- Report equipment malfunctions or damage promptly.
- Assist with basic preventative maintenance and housekeeping of wash bay equipment as directed.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Previous experience in a wash bay, commercial vehicle cleaning, detailing, automotive, trucking, or heavy-duty equipment environment is an asset.
- Experience operating pressure washers and commercial cleaning equipment is preferred.
- Valid driver's licence may be required depending on job duties.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Good attention to detail and pride in workmanship.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Positive communication and organizational skills.
- Comfortable working around heavy-duty trucks, trailers, machinery, chemicals, water, grease, and outdoor elements.
- Ability to work in a physically demanding environment.
Working Conditions The Wash Bay Attendant may work in a combination of indoor and outdoor environments and will regularly be exposed to:
- Water and wet surfaces
- Heavy-duty vehicles and equipment
- High-pressure water
- Cleaning chemicals and degreasers
- Dirt, mud, grease, oil, and road contaminants
- Noise from trucks, machinery, and shop equipment
- Varying temperatures
- Potentially slippery surfaces
Appropriate PPE and safety procedures must be followed at all times.
General Duties
This is intended to describe the general nature and level of work performed by the Wash Bay Attendant. Additional duties and responsibilities may be assigned by management based on operational requirements.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $18.00-$20.00 per hour
