The Chance The Roads department serves the public to maintain the integrity and safety of Airdrie’s roadways and sidewalks to provide safe and unimpeded movement in and around Airdrie, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. In addition, the Roads department coordinates safety orientation and equipment training through effective learning initiatives and field inspections for all municipal staff.

The Winter Equipment Operator/Labourer is responsible for operating various pieces of heavy equipment in a safe and appropriate manner. This position requires you to perform municipal roadway maintenance. You are expected to work independently and as a member of a team, working with internal staff and contractors in a field environment.

This six (6) month term position requires various physically demanding tasks in all weather conditions and the ability to work a compressed work week 24/7. Shifts are pre-scheduled, 12 hours in length and incorporate nights and weekends in the rotation (7 day shifts, 5:30am to 5:30pm - 7 off - 7 night shifts, 5:30pm to 5:30am - 7 off).

Main responsibilities include but are not limited to:

- Safely operate various pieces of heavy equipment which may include 1-7 ton axle trucks with winter attachments and loaders
- Perform municipal roadway maintenance including road and sidewalk snow and ice control
- Carry out requested maintenance as required

You Bring

- High School Diploma or GED




- Valid Class 3Q (or Class 1) motor vehicle licence required
- First Aid and CPR certification would be considered an asset
- Experience with a loader would be an asset
- Demonstrated ability to operate equipment safely and effectively in all conditions
- Demonstrated ability to work within a team environment to provide outstanding customer service
- Ability to complete various physically demanding tasks in all weather conditions
