The team ensures compliance with legal requirements for TD Bank Group as a cross‑border public company while advising on the business activities of the Bank.Job OverviewThe Senior Counsel, Employment Law reports to the Managing Counsel, Canadian HR Legal. The role supports the Labor & Employment team focused on global Human Resources and leading litigation on all labor and employment matters in Canada and the U.S. Responsibilities include:Understanding our clients' business, legal, and regulatory requirementsAnticipating emerging issues and providing adaptable responses based on experienceProviding advice that protects the Bank's reputation and mitigates legal riskPrimary duties include providing legal support on all Canadian labor and employment matters, managing litigation, and enforcing compliance with applicable laws, codes, regulations, and guidelines. The Senior Counsel acts primarily as counsel to Canadian Human Resources, Employee Relations, and other lines of business as needed.Job RequirementsProvide advice and counsel to TD's Human Resources and Employee Relations groups and various lines of business on a wide range of employment‑related matters.Provide strategic direction and manage outside counsel in all employment‑related litigation.Advise on matters related to employee mobility, restrictive covenants, and protection of confidential or proprietary business information.Support workplace investigations, accommodations, performance management, and disciplinary actions to ensure consistent and compliant practices.Draft,
review, and revise instruments involving Human Resources, employment practices, and compensation matters.Keep up to date with employment and compensation legislation and provide updates to Human Resources and Employee Relations.Provide project leadership in complex employment, benefits, compensation, or human resources‑related legal transactions.Review and provide advice on compensation and incentive plans.Make presentations to company officers and employees on employment‑related legal and legislative matters.Correspond with provincial and federal agencies on employment and human resources issues.Advise Human Resources and business lines on obligations relating to human rights legislation, pay equity, employment equity, and accessibility legislation.Qualifications / Skills / ExperienceLaw degree from an accredited law school and qualified to practice law in Ontario.7+ years of post‑call employment experience (in‑house or law firm).Subject‑matter expertise in Canadian employment law (labour law, human rights law, and pension law knowledge is an asset).Senior‑level advanced ability to identify problems, implement solutions, and drive business strategy.Demonstrated excellence in judgment, leadership, and relationship management.Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with solid collaboration and team‑building abilities.Flexibility to adapt to changing and ambiguous initiatives or requirements.Ability to multi‑task and operate independently on a day‑to‑day basis.Strong technology aptitude, including proficiency with standard office software and the ability to learn new technologies.Language Requirement (Quebec only)Sans ObjetOur Total Rewards PackageBase salary, variable compensation, health and well‑being benefits, retirement programs, paid time off, banking benefits, career development, and reward and recognition programs.#J-18808-Ljbffr
