Job InformationJob Title: Policy AnalystRequisition ID: 83203Ministry: Jobs, Economy, Trade and ImmigrationLocation: Edmonton, AlbertaHours: 36.25 hours per weekClassification: Program Services 3Salary: $2,849.89‑$3,738.14 bi‑weekly ($74,382‑$97,565 per year)OverviewThe Policy and Strategy Unit of the Policy and Program Delivery Branch leads the assessment, development and implementation of policies related to SMEs, entrepreneurs, regional economic development and strengthening Alberta's business support ecosystem. This position reports to the Manager of Strategic Initiatives and provides research and policy analysis to inform senior leadership and stakeholders on strategic economic development and regional economic issues.ResponsibilitiesSupport a portfolio of policy, strategy and research projects with competing priorities.Conduct jurisdictional, market, economic and statistical research and analysis.Provide strategic and policy advice related to economic development, SMEs and entrepreneurs.Identify opportunities and programs to stimulate economic growth.Represent the department in inter‑departmental and cross‑ministerial work teams.Collaborate with stakeholders, GoA departments,



elected officials and industry to influence policy development.CompetenciesCreative Problem Solving – independently execute research projects with no precedent.Drive for Results – assess situations, develop engagement plans and achieve satisfactory outcomes.Systems Thinking – consider international, national and provincial policy contexts.Agility – adapt and refocus in grey policy areas.Develop Networks – maintain cross‑departmental and external linkages.QualificationsUniversity graduation in Business, Economics, Political Science, Public Policy or a related field plus 2 years progressively responsible related experience; or equivalent as described below.Equivalency: 1 year of education considered equal to 1 year of experience, and vice‑versa.Knowledge of economic development and business growth concepts.Knowledge of public and not‑profit sector programs applicable to regional economic development.Detailed knowledge of business, industry, export and economic drivers affecting Alberta's economy.Well‑developed research, analytical and problem‑solving skills.Practical knowledge of economic, statistical, cross‑jurisdictional cost‑benefit analysis.Knowledge of provincial and federal legislation, policies and programs related to economic and business development.BenefitsPositive workplace culture and work‑life balance.Leadership and mentorship programs.#J-18808-Ljbffr
