Home Communications Manager (Term Full-Time)Business Unit:Communications ManagerLocation:Lax Kw’alaams, British ColumbiaReporting to:Chief Administrating OfficerThe Lax Kw’alaams Communications Department has an immediate opening for a Term Full time Communications Manager. The term position will start late June/early July 2026 until shortly after the manager returns in August 2027. As a key member of the team, this role is responsible for a variety of communications tasks, including creating, developing, and managing content across multiple platforms and mediums. We are looking for a self-motivated, proactive professional who can take initiative and ensure tasks are completed efficiently and in a timely manner.ResponsibilitiesManage the Lax Kw’alaams Band’s executive and administrative communications, marketing and media activities, including the development of approved communications plans and programsTranslate the strategic priorities of the Lax Kw’alaams Band council and administration into external communications strategies, programs and initiativesContinually review and develop the Lax Kw’alaams Band’s communications strategic priorities with stakeholders as needed, ensuring deliverables are within the scope of external communicationsDevelop external communication policies, for review by Lax Kw’alaams elected leadershipResearch and develop content to support presentations, advertisements, website and digital content, brochures, and other Band communication marketing assetsTrack and support Band involvement in presentations, meetings and community, annual and special events, especially with respect to coordination of presentation materialManage the annual advertising calendar and advertising material development, placement and advertisement tracking/reporting (print, radio, social,
TV as needed)Support work with external suppliers to ensure communication products are produced and delivered according to set budgets and timelinesMonitor and report on media coverage of the BandTrack and maintain reporting on the effectiveness of communications activities quarterly or bi‑annuallyReview, manage and update communications assets, including rebranding campaigns as neededProvide specialized expertise and guidance concerning community engagement to department heads, as requestedWork with internal and external stakeholders to identify priorities – including council, staff, community members, federal, provincial and municipal governments and other NGOsSupervise communications staff and conduct employee performance reviewsWork with stakeholders and communications staff to write and produce an annual report to the membership, along with other communications materialsServe as the media contact for formal external communications, including press releasesBuild and maintain relationships with local media outletsNote:Perform all other duties within the scope of the position and as requested by the CAO or Designate.QualificationsEducationAn undergraduate degree in Communications or a related field is an asset, orA combination of education and work experience may be considered for an otherwise viable candidateExperience5 years of related work experienceProven experience in supporting successful communications, media relations,
events and corporate reputation initiativesCompetencyExcellent verbal and written communication skills, with strong editing and proofreading abilitiesProven experience developing and implementing strategic communication plansStrong time management and prioritization skills, with the ability to manage multiple campaigns simultaneouslyHighly organized and detail-oriented, ensuring accuracy and consistency across all communicationsProficient in Microsoft Office Suite, WordPress, Canva, and Adobe Creative CloudSkilled in social media management, content scheduling, and digital marketing toolsExperience creating engaging content for websites, newsletters, press releases, and social media platformsStrong understanding of brand voice, messaging, and audience engagement strategiesPhysical Demands and Working EnvironmentProlonged periods of sitting while working at a computer and using standard office equipmentExtended periods of standing while representing the Communications Department and Lax Kw’alaams community at eventsMental DemandsYou will have to complete several tasks and responsibilities at one time and must be prepared to deal with emergencies and stressful situations at any timeCondition of EmploymentYou will adhere to the Lax Kw’alaams Band Code of Conduct, Code of Confidentiality, Social Media Policy and any other Policies in the Human Resource ManualFollow all guidelines harmoniously and cooperatively, creating a team approach in their duties for the Band’s future successAcceptable Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector SearchValid Driver’s License (Class 5)Classification / Pay Scale$85,000 – $90,000You can expect a supportive work environment, a total compensation package which includes a competitive wage, extended health and dental benefits and a pension plan.#J-18808-Ljbffr
