Position Type:PermanentClosing date:2026-05-13Located in Whitbourne, NFLD, the Operations Manager will be responsible for the effective and efficient day‑to‑day 24/7 operations of the EMS service, including managing over 100 paramedics and a dynamic EMS system to meet the performance requirements of the ambulance service for the contracted service area and surrounding areas. Reporting to the Regional Manager, the role assists with corporate strategic goals, builds staff capabilities, and implements changes to improve service levels for both external patient care and internal staff. The overall core responsibility is to provide oversight for the workforce in a positive manner while supporting relationships with external partners for major strategic projects and mitigating risk for MHNL.The candidate will support senior management, maintain ambulances, support vehicles, and medical equipment, promote a culture of reporting, implement changes to improve patient care, manage staff performance, handle complaints, and oversee daily operations per Medavie policies. Responsibilities also include recruitment, ensuring policy compliance, maintaining staff and public safety, staying updated on legislative and technological developments, evaluating departmental operations, reporting results to senior leadership, managing paramedic resources, collaborating with other emergency services, assisting investigations, coordinating major incidents and disaster management,



and performing other duties as assigned.Professional Qualifications & CompetenciesCompleted an approved paramedic training program and currently registered as either a Primary Care Paramedic or an Advanced Care Paramedic in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador.Minimum of five years’ experience working as a paramedic with at least three years in a progressively responsible leadership role or equivalent.Proven experience in EMS management, information technology, finance, and human resources.Comprehensive understanding of federal, provincial, and municipal legislation and regulations related to Ground Ambulance and Emergency Medical Services.Experience leading and facilitating training and working groups.Valid Class 4 driver’s license in Newfoundland and Labrador (or equivalent).Ability to exercise independent judgment and solve problems with discretion.Commitment to providing excellent customer/patient service and a passion for business growth within MHNL.Leadership abilities with a track record for inspiring and inspiring others.Skilled in leading and developing staff.Positive and creative problem‑solving approach.Excellent communication, negotiation, and dispute resolution skills.Working knowledge of standard business computer programs (e.G., Microsoft Office Suite).Post‑secondary education in business administration considered an asset.Regular business hours required; irregular hours, travel, and occasional overtime possible.Salary: $105,000 – $115,000 annually. The base pay range may vary depending on the successful candidate’s knowledge, skills, qualifications, experience, and education/training.
