We are looking for a Contract Specialist to join our Life & Health Contracts team, supporting the US, Canada, and English Caribbean markets. In this role, you will draft and structure reinsurance contracts, ensuring terms are clear, accurate, and aligned with market practice. This is an individual contributor role reporting to the L&H Contracts Team Lead – US/Canada/English Caribbean.About The TeamThe L&H Contracts function drafts, reviews, and advises on traditional reinsurance agreements between Swiss Re and its clients. In close partnership with client managers, underwriting, pricing, claims, legal, and operations, the Contracts team:Structures and documents agreements aligned with underwriting intentAdvises on wording implications and commercial risk trade-offsSupports disciplined portfolio management through contract analysisContracts play a critical role in safeguarding Swiss Re’s risk position while enabling sustainable long‑term performance.About The RoleDraft and review reinsurance contractsDraft and review Life & Health traditional reinsurance contracts and addendaOwn end‑to‑end drafting for assigned deals, with a high degree of independenceTranslate technical and commercial inputs into explicit and enforceable contractual languageEnsure contracts reflect deal structure, underwriting intent, and agreed commercial termsDeliver high‑quality contracts within expected timelinesManage contract quality and riskIdentify and assess commercial, operational, and contractual risksApply internal guidelines to determine appropriate positions and approvalsMaintain consistency and deviation discipline across contractsIdentify and address emerging issues and problematic clausesContribute to the development and refinement of standard wordingsPartner with stakeholders and clientsPartner with Client Managers and cross‑functional stakeholders to clarify deal requirements and resolve ambiguitiesAct as a trusted advisor on contract wording and risk trade‑offsProvide clear analysis and recommended positions to support decision‑makingParticipate in contract discussions with clients, including negotiation of wording where appropriateEngage Legal on non‑standard, jurisdiction‑specific,



or dispute‑related mattersAbout YouProven ability to independently draft and review complex reinsurance contractsExperience in Life & Health reinsurance or broader insurance marketsStrong understanding of reinsurance structures and underwriting conceptsSound commercial judgment and risk assessment capabilityConfidence engaging directly with business stakeholders and clientsComfortable using technology, workflow tools, and GenAIIdeal Candidate BackgroundReinsurer or insurer with exposure to Life & Health treaty documentationIn‑house legal or contracting roles within insurance or financial servicesLaw firm or advisory roles involving re/insurance or complex financial contractsProficiency in French is an advantage, but not requiredWhy this roleStrong ownership: Operate with autonomy within clear frameworks and decision boundariesDirect deal exposure: Engage with underwriting, pricing, and client teams on live transactionsHigh‑impact role: Influence how reinsurance deals are executed across key marketsIndustry‑leading tools: Work in a tech‑enabled environment with advanced workflow tools and GenAI embedded into daily workDeep market expertise: Develop expertise in complex reinsurance structures within a leading global reinsurerThe base salary hiring range for this existing position is CAD $92,000–138,000. The specific base salary offered for this or any given role will take into account a number of factors including but not limited to job location, scope of role, qualifications, complexity/specialization/scarcity of talent, experience, education, and employer budget.
