Position OverviewThe University of California, Agriculture and Natural Resources (UC ANR) invites applications for an Academic Coordinator II position at UC Cooperative Extension, Humboldt office, in Eureka, CA. Location: UCCE, Eureka, CA.PurposeThe Academic Coordinator II will assist in content development, partner coordination, and project implementation of the Fire Resilience and Workforce Development Program. The position collaborates with UC ANR staff, the ANR Fire Network, and strategic partners to develop educational curricula that increase fire resiliency across diverse stakeholders and thematic areas. The coordinator will communicate science‑based research, pursue new opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration, and build relationships with project partners statewide. Curriculum will be delivered online and in person, and the coordinator will help teach program components.The program aims to accelerate fire adaptation and resilience, develop comprehensive fire education supporting workforce development and action planning, and inspire community planning and risk reduction.Additional responsibilities include outreach for the California Fire Science Consortium and coordination of activities with the Humboldt County Prescribed Burn Association.AlignmentAs UC ANR’s Vision 2040 highlights, this role helps address complex regulatory environments, mitigate extreme weather impacts, advance agriculture, sustain ecosystems, and build resilience. The coordinator will contribute to UC ANR’s mission by developing equitable, collaborative, science‑based solutions.ClienteleThe coordinator serves natural resource managers, homeowners, landowners, and professionals supporting them (foresters, contractors, realtors, landscapers, etc.). Many responsibilities involve extending UC ANR academic materials into online and in‑person workshops.Major Duties and ResponsibilitiesCoordinate statewide Fire Resilience and Workforce Development Program and Northern California Fire Science Consortium.Coordinate activities of the Humboldt County Prescribed Burn Association.Lead and contribute to communication efforts (websites, social media, blogs).Develop, adapt, implement, evaluate program activities, training, curriculum, and other educational activities.Assist in proposal development for extramural funding (grants, contracts, gifts/donations).Effectively communicate science‑based research to diverse audiences.Collaborate with UC ANR academics, campus specialists, faculty, and others to address priority issues.Create a positive team environment, model good teamwork, set goals, motivate others.Participate in qualified organizations and collaborate with governmental agencies, NGOs,



and others.Represent UC ANR professionally and maintain positive stakeholder relationships.Commit to ongoing self‑improvement and lifelong learning.Promote UC ANR’s Principles of Community.Reporting RelationshipThe Academic Coordinator II reports to the Forestry Advisor of the UCCE Humboldt County and the Fire Network Director, with supervision and evaluation from both. The position also collaborates with UC ANR academics, Cooperative Extension staff, and other UC academics.Qualifications RequiredMinimum of a master’s degree in natural resource management, fire, or related area.Technical knowledge of fire science and management.Ability to communicate complex concepts to landowners, community members, and academics.Five years or more of professional experience in fire or forest management.Record of training or experience in fire/forest science or management.Prior curriculum development, teaching, research design, monitoring fire effects, and prescribed burn planning preferred.Operational fire qualifications (e.G., NWCG FFT1, FIRB, FEMO) prioritized.Ability and means to travel flexibly; required insurance and valid California driver’s license.Available to work onsite; flexible work agreements possible.Interest in a career in UC Cooperative Extension.Unrestricted and permanent U.S. work authorization.Candidate must disclose any misconduct investigations or decisions as described.Skills RequiredTechnical CompetenceDeliver and evaluate research, educational materials, and extension programming.Plan, coordinate, and conduct prescribed fire operations.Disseminate science‑based educational material including presentations.Maintain literacy in internet communications and computer software.Conduct field sampling, data collection and analysis, including remote plots and lab work.CommunicationExcellence in written, oral, and interpersonal communication.Effectively discuss technical and scientific questions.Tailor communication to diverse audiences (academics, land managers, public).Listen, communicate, and extend complex information to funders, partners, stakeholders.Collaboration, Teamwork, and FlexibilityWork independently and collaboratively in teams and provide leadership.Lead and instruct diverse groups in prescribed fire operations.Collaborate with stakeholders of diverse viewpoints.Be self‑directed, responsible,
