Title:Health Care Aide (Casual)Number of Positions:MultipleCompetition Number:C160Location:Rising SunStatus:CasualReports to:Senior Manager, Clinical Operations and ServicesCompensation:(Grid21) $29.76 - $31.64Job SummaryThe Health Care Aide at Phoenix Society works under the functional direction of a Licensed Practical Nurse or other designate, and in cooperation with the interdisciplinary team, to assist in the delivery of client care in accordance with established policies, standards and procedures.ResponsibilitiesClient ServicesAssist and support clients with their life skills and pre-established care plansGreet patients/clients/families, assist with storage of personal belongings and creation of a safe/comfortable environment, provide orientation of room and unit, and maintain confidentiality and respect for the patient’s rights and privacyAssist in the delivery of nursing care under the functional direction of a Licensed Practical Nurse or designate and perform duties such as recording of blood pressure, temperature, pulse, respiration, height and weight; administering sterile and/or non‑sterile dressings; supporting personal hygiene such as bathing, grooming, oral care and feeding as required; assisting clinicians inpositioning and holding children during procedures; and obtaining specimenssuch as urineObserve and monitor patient/client progress, symptoms and behavioural changes. Report significant observations such as discomfort and/or pain, changes in vital signs, weight, body measurements, skin breakdowns, unusual incidents and/or accidents, and feedback from the client into the care planning progress to the Licensed Practical Nurse or designateRespond to call bells/alarms by alerting the appropriate health care team member and/or assisting as necessary. Respond to emergent situations by calling appropriate code and assisting care team in accordance with unit/program guidelinesUtilize mechanical aides such as specialty beds, lifts, slide boards, mobilizers, wheelchairs and stretchers to transport clients. Provide assistance with positioning, lifting and/or transferring clients utilizing established lifting/safety techniques, and accompany patient/clients to provide assistanceRetrieve lab results and patient information from external systemsProvide input regarding improvements to client care and the efficient and safe operation of the areaOperationsMaintain a clean and safe setting; ensure call light/bell is within reach, make beds, apply side‑rail requirements, empty urine bags, handle workplace hazardous materials according to procedures, and report all incidents,



equipment problems and potential safety issuesPrepare room for discharge cleaning and/or assist in room setup. Remove bed linen and forward to laundry; make beds; empty/clean fridge; and remove extra supplies in accordance with established proceduresClean equipment in the shared spaces such as wipe washing exam tables, wall mounted exam equipment, blood pressure units, overhead lamps, and measurement scales prior to the next patientMaintain supplies in utility areas, supply cupboards, resident washrooms, bed‑side tables and storage areas; check supply sheets to identify items and quantities required; notify others of depleting stock and replenish accordingly; tidy supply cupboards, shelves and other areasParticipate in team meetings, discussions and/or related training sessionsAdministrationPerform related clerical duties such as answering telephones; providing generalinformation; ensuring requisitions are labelled with patient demographics; maintaining patient flow; requesting, collecting,filing, or returning charts to the appropriate departmentQualificationsGrade 12Resident Care Attendant Certificate and current registration with the BC Care Aid registry is requiredRecent, related experience of one year providing trauma‑informed acute or community health nursing care/services to patients who have a combination of physical, psychiatric and/or concurrent substance abuse/misuse disorders, or equivalentOran equivalent combination of education, training, and experienceOrother qualifications determined to be reasonable and relevant to the level of workSatisfactory completion of a criminal records check with vulnerable sector screening is requiredSatisfactory completion of Tuberculosis Screening form is requiredSatisfactory completion of Employee Immunization Record form is requiredFirst Aid 1 and Current CPR certificate is requiredValid driver’s license is requiredSkills & KnowledgeKnowledge of community health nursing theory including mental health and addictions, communicable diseases, primary care and practice within a patient/family‑centered approachKnowledge of facilitation, mediation, and conflict resolution techniquesKnowledge of computer literacy to operate a computerized patient care information system and word processing, spreadsheet,
