We require a diverse range of skills to support our work and welcome candidates from all backgrounds and life stages who are passionate about making a difference.Position OverviewThe Buyer is responsible for purchasing assigned commodities and services (a wide variety of standard and special items) to proper specifications for function intended, from the best qualified supplier and assuring maximum return (lowest cost, highest quality, on‑time delivery, etc.) for each dollar spent, all within ethical purchasing practices and Company policy.LocationThis position is onsite in Oakville,
Ontario.Your Day to Day as a BuyerCommodities & Services PurchasingPurchase assigned commodities and services.Review and analyze quote to ensure clarity and accuracy of technical and commercial items.Visit with suppliers to stay current with vendor capabilities.Develop strategic product/commodity procurement and develop new vendors considering all business factors including technical, market, commercial, scheduling and quality factors.On Time DeliveryReview purchase requisitions to assure scope is properly specified.Ensure sufficient lead times are given.Maintain internal interface.Coordinate the shipment of free issue materials as required.Review cost estimates with Proposal Management personnel in order to prepare cost estimate for commodities and services required for the proposal.Create Purchase Commitment form and review supplier bids for vendor selection.Cost ReductionMaintain an on‑going value analysis and cost reduction effort for the assigned commodities.Expedite all open orders and search for potential suppliers, negotiating cost reduction with existing supply base.Contract AdministrationArrange and participate in meetings between suppliers and BWXT engineering, operations, and project management personnel.Provide supplier corrective action resolution and supplier quality improvement.ComplianceEnsure compliance with applicable external codes, regulations and guidelines as well as internal standards set by BWXT.Required QualificationsPost Secondary education in Purchasing, Logistic, Supply Chain Management or related program.5-10 years’ experience in supply management.CPP enrollment preferred.Demonstrated knowledge of purchasing standards and regulations an asset.Knowledge of department procedures and QAM/QPM.Supplier relationship development, negotiation skills,
excellent written and oral communication skills as well as the ability to work effectively within teams.Basic product knowledge and understanding of BWXT’s business processes.Proficient in most business related software applications.Some capability with regard to risk management and quality tools.BWXT confirms that the position represents a current vacancy within our organization.At BWXT, we are committed to a fair, transparent, and inclusive hiring process. However, the base salary offered is based on local job market factors and may vary further depending on factors specific to the selected job candidate, such as job‑related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. Subject to these considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, such as an annual cash incentive in addition to a full range of medical, retirement, and/or other benefits.
