We have an immediate opening for a District Accountant for our Chatham, Ontario district.As a District Accountant at Waste Connections of Canada, you will be involved with every piece of the accounting cycle. You will support the District Controller in daily accounting tasks in addition to monthly reporting and special projects.You will interact with employees from all aspects of the business including Operations, Sales, Dispatch, Customer Service, and Maintenance. Your success within the role is reliant on an ambitious work ethic, excellent communication and the ability to problem‑solve. The key to Waste Connections’s continued growth and success is sourcing, developing, and promoting individuals who meet these expectations.ResponsibilitiesCoordinate month‑end district close process including billing,
preparing key journal entriesPrepare monthly operational and financial reports used for month end and forecast analysisAssist the Controller in annual budget preparationsReview and approve various items in TRUX system such as cash and adjustment entries entered by Accounts ReceivablePerform cash reconciliations for various payment types including bank reconciliation, intercompany cash payments, and internet bank paymentsPrepare district quarterly and annual reporting packages, including reconciliation of balance sheet accounts and analysis of key balance sheet sectionsCo‑ordinate Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable as well as other departments involved in admin processes to ensure sound full‑cycle accounting processReconcile accounts payable as well as accounts receivable balances as neededOversee daily collections activities to ensure timely follow‑up on outstanding accountsMonitor aging reports, identify high‑risk accounts, and implement strategies to reduce delinquencyResolve escalated customer issues related to billing, payments,
and account discrepanciesAnalyze AR trends and recommend process improvements to enhance efficiency and reduce DSOPrepare and present weekly/monthly AR and collections performance reportsAssist in annual greenhouse gas emissions reportingAssist in containers & rolling stock inventory audits (physical count not required by the candidate)Act as a backup for cash entry and accounts payableParticipate in implementing and maintaining internal control and reporting processesQualificationsMinimum 2 years of accounting experienceBachelor's degree, Business or Accounting PreferredMust be enrolled in the CPA PEP or be eligible and committed to enrolling in the CPA programExcellent written and interpersonal communication skillsHighly organized with attention to detailAbility to meet tight deadlines and navigate multiple prioritiesIntermediate to advanced skills in MS Excel a must and related accounting business systemsMust be able to pass all pre‑employment requirementsBenefitsCompetitive Wages ($60,000 - $65,000 plus bonus)Retirement Plan with company match; let us help you save for your futureBenefits: Medical, Dental, VisionPerks, perks, perks!
