Junior Associate Legal Counsel – Temporary (Up to 12 Months)Job Code: NU469 | Job Number: J0426-0332Location: Hybrid – 310 King Street East | Hours: 35 hrs/wkSalary: $85,799.10 - $107,172.54/YearOverviewUnder the direct supervision of the Director, Legal Services & City Solicitor, the Junior Associate Legal Counsel assists with the operations of the Legal Services Department. The role involves researching, analyzing, and advising on complex legal topics such as administrative, contract, environmental, human rights, intellectual property, labour, land use planning, privacy, procurement, and real estate, with a focus on their application to municipalities.This position works under the direction of other lawyers in the Legal Services Department to develop strategies that proactively protect the municipality's interests and reduce exposure to legal risks. The role requires understanding and encouraging compliance with all legislative and common law requirements governing program delivery.ResponsibilitiesConduct research on case law and commentary on a variety of complex legal topics relevant to municipalities and prepare written memoranda to other lawyers in the Legal Services Department.Prepare oral and written submissions, filings, and represent the City’s interests before courts and administrative tribunals on routine matters.Draft basic procurement contracts, agreements of purchase and sale, easement agreements, leases, licences, and other routine legal agreements.Research, analyze, and advise other lawyers regarding implications of matters of law, legislation, procedures, and operational and strategic decisions.Other duties as assigned.QualificationsUniversity degree in law (LL.B or J.D.) or related program.Completion of articling requirements as prescribed by the Law Society of Ontario,
