Caretaker, Custodial Operations and Building ServicesPrimary Purpose:To provide proactive cleaning services to the University of Saskatchewan campus with a focus on exceeding the expectations of students, faculty, research, administration, and visitors.Nature of Work:This position reports to the Assistant Managers, Custodial Operation and Building services, and provides proactive cleaning services on campus. The role requires self‑motivation, initiative, teamwork, customer service, and the ability to work safely with chemicals and cleaning equipment. The position may involve contact with animals and requires discretion when accessing sensitive areas.Typical Duties/Accountabilities:Cleaning washrooms and related fixtures, common areas, and floors using dry and wet mops, brooms, vacuum cleaners, and automatic scrubbing machines.Providing cleaning services in other areas as required to cover absences of other caretaking staff.Reporting building deficiencies.Securing the building after hours.Providing courteous customer service to the university community and visiting public when circumstances require.QualificationsEducation:Completion of Grade 10. Completion of Grade 12 considered an asset. Current acceptable criminal record check required.Experience:Minimum one year of caretaking/cleaning experience in an institutional or hospitality setting; experience working safely with chemicals and power cleaning equipment is an asset. Customer and teamwork experience essential.Skills:Basic English reading,



verbal and written communication at the appropriate level; effective interpersonaland communication skills; customer oriented;familiarity with power equipment; attention to detail; ability to work independently and as part of a team; adaptability; physical ability to lift and move 25 lbs and stand, walk, bend for extended periods; time‑management skills.Must be able to work in close contact with various animals, loose fur, and hair.Physical requirement: ability to lift/move 25 lbs and work extended periods.Terms & ConditionsDepartment:Custodial OperationsStatus:Term 6 months with the possibility of extension or becoming permanentEmployment Group:CUPE 1975Shift:Shift times may vary, including weekdays morning/evening shifts and weekends morning/evening shifts.
