? Pay Rate: $75.00/hour + 4% Vacation Pay
⏰ Hours: Monday to Friday, 37.5 Hours/Week

About the Opportunity
Our client is seeking an experienced Risk Specialist IV to join a growing Project Management Office (PMO) supporting a portfolio of major capital projects across North America.
This role provides independent oversight, challenge, and guidance across a diverse portfolio valued at approximately $60 billion, including projects ranging from gas pipelines, crude oil pipelines, compressor stations, wind energy, and solar developments. Individual projects can exceed $4-5 billion in value.
The successful candidate will operate at the portfolio level, ensuring consistent risk management practices across projects while partnering with project teams, risk analysts, project controls, and senior leadership to strengthen project outcomes and organizational risk maturity.
What You'll Do
Portfolio Risk Leadership
- Establish and maintain a consistent project and portfolio risk management framework across the PMO.
- Provide oversight of risk exposure across a large portfolio of projects and identify emerging enterprise and cross-project risks.
- Consolidate project-level risks into portfolio-level insights, trends, and executive reporting.
- Ensure material risks are appropriately escalated to PMO and executive leadership.
Governance & Oversight
- Review project risk registers, mitigation plans, risk ownership, and response strategies.
- Challenge project teams on the quality, completeness, and effectiveness of risk assessments.
- Monitor compliance with risk management standards and governance requirements.
- Develop and continuously improve PMO risk governance procedures, tools, templates, and methodologies.
Strategic Risk Management
- Identify recurring risks, systemic issues, and interdependencies across the portfolio.
- Integrate risk management with project controls, cost management, scheduling, estimating, procurement, contracting, quality management, and change management processes.
- Benchmark PMO practices against industry-leading standards and best practices.
- Support development of meaningful portfolio risk metrics, KPIs, and reporting capabilities.
Innovation & Continuous Improvement
- Contribute to the evolution of risk analytics, including the use of historical project data, probability-based analysis, and emerging AI-enabled risk management approaches.
- Help define what project risk data should be tracked to improve future forecasting and decision-making.
- Provide risk management training and mentoring to project managers, engineers, project controls professionals, and stakeholders.
What We're Looking For
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business, Finance, Project Management, Risk Management, or a related discipline.
- 8-10+ years of experience in:
- Project Risk Management
- Project Controls
- Project Management
- Major Capital Projects
- Experience working in a PMO, project governance, project controls, or portfolio management environment.
- Demonstrated experience managing risk across large, complex projects or portfolios.
- Strong understanding of:
- Cost Management
- Scheduling
- Scope Management
- Change Management
- Procurement & Contracting
- Project Controls
- Experience with qualitative and quantitative risk analysis.
- Experience presenting risk information to senior leadership and governance committees.
- Robust communication, facilitation, influencing, and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Ability to independently challenge project teams while maintaining collaborative relationships.
Preferred Experience
✅ Energy, Pipeline, Oil & Gas, Utilities, Power Generation, Renewable Energy, or Major Infrastructure projects
✅ Experience supporting large capital project portfolios across North America
✅ Experience with risk modelling and quantitative techniques such as:
- Monte Carlo Analysis
- Probabilistic Risk Analysis
- Contingency Analysis
- Portfolio Risk Analytics
✅ Experience developing KPIs, metrics, and reporting frameworks
✅ Experience working with project risk management software
Certifications (Assets)
The following certifications are considered strong assets:
- PMP (Project Management Professional)
- PMI-RMP (Risk Management Professional)
- Other Risk Management or Project Controls certifications
