Our team values diversity, respect, caring and trust in a energetic health care environment, and offers a competitive compensation and benefit package, including comprehensive health benefits coverage.Important to KnowBefore we can finalize any offer of employment, you must confirm you are legally entitled to work in Canada.Detailed OverviewUnder the supervision of a Registered Nurse or Registered Psychiatric Nurse, you will assist in routine patient care during psychosocial rehabilitative activities, self‑care and structured group activities, maintain a safe setting, monitor patient status, assist with bed making, personal hygiene, washing personal clothing, and transport patients to off‑site appointments.ResponsibilitiesWork under the direction of the care leader, participating in stabilization, rehabilitation and care of patients by providing personal care, teaching simple social skills, escorting patients, and monitoring activities.Provide direct personal care by assisting patients with bathing, dressing, personal hygiene, prosthetics and elimination, and escort them off‑unit for treatment or diagnostic procedures.Assist patients at meal time, monitoring safety, and provide assistance with meal trays and feeding selected patients as required.Assist patients with activities of daily living (ADL) including making beds, organizing personal belongings and doing laundry, and retrieving personal care supplies from storage as needed.Provide one‑to‑one personal care and observation of specific patients as directed by the RN/RPN, and assist in the seclusion room as directed, including ADL activities and food delivery.Report observations of patients' conditions to nursing staff and the care team, recording observations on the patient health‑care record per RN/RPN direction.
Participate in ward rounds and team meetings, providing feedback on observations related to specific patients.Facilitate patients’ participation in psychosocial rehabilitation activities under the direction of the RN/RPN or Occupational Therapist, setting schedules and participating in unit‑scheduled individual and group activities.Transport patients to off‑site appointments by operating a passenger vehicle.Participate in unit orientation, familiarizing patients, families, new staff, volunteers, and students with unit layout, patient rooms, and routines.Maintain unit safety by assisting with routine searches of rooms and client belongings as directed by nursing staff.Perform procedures such as weighing patients, monitoring nutritional and fluid intake and elimination, collecting specimens, recording observations, and reporting problems or changes to the RN/RPN.Assist patients with retrieval, storage, and relocation of personal effects to different rooms within the unit.Transport patients using mechanical aids such as wheelchairs and stretchers.Participate in quality‑improvement activities, providing input and feedback on department initiatives.Assist in providing a safe, secure environment by ensuring the unit is uncluttered and reporting unsafe or hazardous conditions, following employer procedures to ensure patient safety.Perform other related duties as required.QualificationsEducation and ExperienceGrade ten plus graduation from a recognized Mental Health Care Worker program or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
