Administrative Oshawa - ID: ADP24-10 - TemporaryOVERVIEWThe Centre for Teaching and Learning (CTL) is seeking an Instructional Design Consultant. Reporting to the manager, eLearning, the incumbent provides instructional design advice, guidance and support to faculty, subject‑matter experts (SMEs), staff and administrators through the application of current evidence‑based principles and Universal Design for Learning. The Instructional Designer is responsible for the development of online (asynchronous, synchronous, hybrid, flexible, or HyFlex) course design and development that meets Durham College’s standards for academic quality.The incumbent will advise faculty, SMEs, and course developers on areas including instructional design processes, science of learning principles, educational technology, learning activities and accessibility standards. The incumbent will be required to work independently and collaboratively in a team consisting of faculty, SMEs, and members of the CTL.The incumbent will have a successful track record of managing staff, projects, and deadlines, possess strong leadership and relationship‑building skills, be task‑oriented, have a demonstrated ability to deal with conflicting priorities, and have experience working with and building in learning management systems such as Desire2Learn. Experience working with design applications (ex. H5P, Adobe Creative Suite, etc.) would be considered an asset. The incumbent will possess excellent communication, leadership, and relationship‑building skills, as well as a deep understanding of current pedagogical and instructional design principles and accessibility standards including Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and AODA. The incumbent will collaborate with the CTL team to develop and deliver professional development workshops to professors, staff and administrators,



and develop online materials to support capacity building in online course design supported by instructional design principles.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESDesigns instructional content based on information provided by subject matter experts aligned with the capabilities of our learning management systemCollaborates with subject matter experts, curriculum consultants, and eLearning developers to design online (asynchronous, synchronous, hybrid, flexible, or HyFlex) courses that are active and engagingApplies expertise in pedagogy to develop effective learning outcomes, online teaching strategies, online learning activities and tasks and assessment strategies.Creates mapping and design documents, storyboards, recommendations documents and other required documentation to support the creation of high‑quality courses.Provide training, coaching and direct support to faculty, subject matter experts, and other stakeholders as required in instructional design principles including digital pedagogy, and implementation of Universal Design for Learning, design thinking and science of learning principles in DC Connect (D2L Brightspace), course and assessment design.Independently assigning and managing tasks with faculty and staff to ensure successful completion of projects within timelines and budget; Managing and resolving conflicts and challenges as well as anticipating problems and proactively mitigating them; Actively coordinating and managing timelines and competing priorities to ensure outcomes are metConducts quality assurance audits of existing online/hybrid/flexible/HyFlex courses to ensure quality standards are metDevelop and implement innovative strategies and support materials for faculty, course developers and other stakeholders.Hire, manage, train and support subject‑matter experts, course developers and work‑study students as required, and monitor timelines to ensure optimized output and quality within deadlines. Provide advice and guidance, and develop remedial strategies as required.Provide input and support in teaching excellence and skill development,



in collaboration with the CTL team.Maintain currency in the field of instructional design, educational technology, and pedagogical approaches.QUALIFICATIONSA minimum of a Masters degree is required, preferably in Education.Certificate in Learning Experience Design and/or Instructional Design considered an asset.A minimum of five years of related work experience with an educational academic environment including teaching and learning, eLearning, and instructional design.Extensive experience with online teaching and learning practices.Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion in all matters related to students, staffing and programming.High level of experience managing staff / team.Experience facilitating training, workshops and coaching for faculty and course developers, providing leadership in an academic setting.Extensive knowledge of pedagogy and science of learning principles.Experience in instructional design and use of educational technology, specifically: Digital andragogy, Articulate Storyline, H5P, D2L Brightspace, and Microsoft 365 Suite.Knowledge of institutional and ministry educational initiatives, instructional design issues, quality standards, online course standards, and college policies and procedures.Comprehensive understanding of AODA, WCAG2.0, and copyright guidelines.Experience with outcomes‑based education, Universal Design for Learning, adult learning principles.Experience in development of instructional design, e‑Learning strategies, and the delivery of face‑to‑face, hybrid, hyflex, and online resource materials, and coaching faculty and course developers on these topics.Experience in staff and managing professional relationships, demonstrated strong analytical, organizational, project management and decision‑making skills.Experience in learning and applying new educational technologies.Excellent interpersonal skills, verbal and written communications skills, and a proven ability to work well with clients and colleagues are essential.REQUIRED SKILLS$76,753 - $95,941REQUIRED EXPERIENCEContract ending August 31, 2025#J-18808-Ljbffr
