OpportunityThe Continuing Care Psychiatric Consulting Service (CCPCS) program consists of a group of specialized nurses who are part of Continuing Care, Facility Living (FL) and Supportive Living (SL) in the Edmonton Zone. The successful candidate will report directly to the CCPCS Manager and work with other clinical teams (NP, SW), Contracted Service Providers (CSP), and consulting psychiatrists to support residents with mental health issues, disruptive behaviors, or potential harm to self or others. CCPCS nurses assess residents, conduct mental health status exams, recommend non‑pharmacological strategies, support frontline teams and families, confer with psychiatrists on pharmacological management, and evaluate outcomes. This agile, self‑directed role requires independent work, coaching of frontline staff, and traveling to various sites in the ALA Edmonton Zone.ResponsibilitiesAssess resident and situation, conduct mental health status examsRecommend non‑pharmacological strategies and work with psychiatry on pharmacological managementProvide support to frontline teams and families; evaluate outcomesof recommendationsCoach, educate, and mentor frontline staff to build capacityAlign practice with resident‑ and family‑centered care and travel to multiple sites in the Edmonton ZoneDescriptionAs a Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN), you will provide leadership across a wide variety of nursing services to promote, maintain, or restore health and mental health, and prevent mental illness, injury, and disability. You will teach, counsel, and advocate for patients, ensuring their safety and well‑being while delivering patient‑ and family‑centered care in line with the shared vision and values of the organization.
Provisional Permit holders will be paid $40.76 to $55.79 per hour; upon obtaining a full practice permit, the rate will be adjusted to the applicable Registered Psychiatric Nurse rate.Required QualificationsCompletion of an accredited Psychiatric nursing education programActive or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of Alberta (CRPNA)Current Basic Cardiac Life Support – Health Care Provider (BCLS‑HCP) certificationCompletion of CRNA Medication Management (Chapters 1‑4) and NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification, if not practiced as an RPN in the last five yearsAdditional Required QualificationsAt least five years of recent health professional experience in Continuing Care and/or a geriatric mental health settingClear understanding of pharmacological and non‑pharmacological approaches to behavioral support for the geriatric population, including strategies and risksDemonstrated ability to engage stakeholders, provide coaching, and mentor staffStrong assessment, problem‑solving, and clinical judgment skillsExcellent oral and written communication, time management, and ability to work independently and as part of a teamPreference for candidates with frontline experience in FL and SLPreferred QualificationsAbility to collaborate with Contracted Service Provider leadership, frontline teams, physicians, pharmacists, psychiatrists, other ALA and non‑ALA clinical teams, case managers, families, and residentsDemonstrated interprofessional skills and experience managing geriatric residents with complex mental health episodesAbility to negotiate updates and trials of resident behavior care plans#J-18808-Ljbffr
