OverviewAn employee hired to operate a school bus and other vehicles required to transport students. The employee is responsible to the Director of Operations or designate.PositionCASUAL ON CALLHours of WorkTen months per year position, while school is in session for students. Morning shifts may start as early as 6:00 a.M. Afternoon shifts may end as late as 5:00 p.M. Possible field trips.Wage RateAs per C.U.P.E Local 4165 Agreement $28.64Qualifications RequiredGrade 12 or equivalent, or willing to obtainBritish Columbia Class 2 driver’s license with air endorsementLevel 1 first aid certificateExperience operating an air-endorsed vehicle would be an assetComputer Skills would be an assetMust Have The Ability ToCommunicate effectively, orally and in writingPerform standardized and repetitive work routinesOperate a variety of tools related to the positionBe self-directed, work independently and/or work collegially in a team environmentPerform physical requirements of the duties requiredMake sound decisions and adjust to a variety of safety, mechanical, traffic and road conditionsEffectively and appropriately manage students on the busWork with disagreeable conditions from time to timeMaintain confidentialityWork under pressure, multitask and meet deadlinesUnderstand and act upon laws, directives and guidelines pertaining to the jobResponsibilities And DutiesAccurate completion of daily trip and pre-trip inspections, which may include adding fuel, oil, and other consumable fluidsAccurate completion of required forms such as duty status records, bus student misconduct reports, and traffic violations.
This may require drivers to use electronic equipmentUltimately responsible for all aspects regarding the safe operation of the vehicle and the management of all passengersMay be required to load, unload, and secure wheelchairsDrivers must report unsafe conditions, including mechanical, traffic, road conditions, discipline and scheduling issues, to the supervisor or designate as soon as it is secure to do soEnsure the bus is cleaned daily and weekly as requiredAdminister first aid as requiredProvide appropriate action for accidents and other potentially serious and/or dangerous situationsAttend meetings or courses, such as student discipline, as requiredProvide driver’s license abstract annuallyExtra-curricular/co-curricular trips may be requiredPerform other job-related dutiesAll applications must be submitted through Make Future to be considered for the position.
