Site Superintendent
Commercial Construction — Structural Slab & Concrete Focus · Full-Time, On-Site · Edmonton & Area, AB
About UrbanAge Construction
UrbanAge Construction Inc. (“UAC”) is a commercial construction company based in Edmonton with over 80 years of combined commercial construction experience. We deliberately limit our portfolio to two or three significant projects per year so every client gets our full, hands-on attention — ownership is on site daily. Our work spans wood- and steel-framed community, hospitality, and recreation facilities, including restaurant, bar, and commercial kitchen build-outs on active-occupancy sites.
The Role
As Site Superintendent you own day-to-day execution on site: safety, schedule, quality, and coordination of own-forces crews and subcontractors. You will work directly with ownership and report progress to the client. Our projects are typically built on pile-supported structural slabs with grade-beam foundations, often poured and protected through Alberta winters on tight, front-loaded schedules — so the critical path runs straight through the work you know best: excavation, foundations, and cold-weather concrete.
Key Responsibilities
■ Direct daily supervision of all site activities: demolition, excavation and structural fill, piling coordination, grade beams, structural slabs, framing, building envelope, and interior fit-out.
■ Own the structural slab scope end-to-end: grade-beam excavation and backfill sequencing, void form and poly placement, reinforcing and embed/anchor-bolt review, sloped pours to drains within the structural slab, and saw-cut, isolation joint, and power-trowelled finishing.
■ Plan and execute cold-weather concrete: hot concrete and blanket protection, heating and hoarding coordination,
sulphate-resistant mixes to geotechnical requirements, and pre-pour readiness so slab dates are protected ahead of winter.
■ Run the look-ahead schedule against the critical path; flag delays the week they happen, quantify them, and bring options — not surprises.
■ Maintain daily construction logs, progress photos from fixed viewpoints, and bi-weekly schedule updates on our cloud-based construction management platform.
■ Enforce quality control with formal reviews at key milestones — pile installation, pre-pour, framing, pre-drywall mechanical/electrical, millwork, and finishes — with documented sign-off and prompt deficiency resolution.
■ Lead site safety alongside our third-party safety consultant: site-specific Health & Safety Plan, toolbox talks, hazard IDs, inspection logs, and monthly safety meetings, with zero tolerance for lost-time incidents.
■ Manage the interface between the construction zone and active client operations: fencing and site logistics, controlled deliveries with flaggers, pedestrian routing, and guest experience.
■ Coordinate municipal inspections with the authorities having jurisdiction, utility service work, and Owner-side vendors and contractors so their timing never lands on the critical path.
Qualifications
■ Required: proven,
hands-on experience delivering pile-supported structural slabs and grade-beam foundations — including slab-on-void-form systems, reinforcing and embed coordination, and cold-weather concrete placement and protection.
■ 10+ years of commercial construction experience, with 5+ years as a Site Superintendent on projects of comparable scale ($2M+).
■ Experience with wood-framed commercial buildings; restaurant, bar, or commercial kitchen build-outs are a strong asset.
■ Comfortable working from full structural, civil, and architectural packages, and managing scope under a CCDC 2 Stipulated Price contract.
■ Working knowledge of the Alberta OH&S; Act and experience on COR/SECOR-aligned sites; current first aid certification an asset.
■ Experience on active-occupancy sites where public safety, scheduling discipline, and client communication are paramount.
■ Proficient with scheduling and daily-reporting tools (e.g., Microsoft Project and cloud-based construction management platforms).
What We Offer
■ Market-competitive salary commensurate with experience, plus vehicle and phone allowance.
■ Direct daily access to ownership — decisions get made fast, and your site gets the company’s full attention as one of only two or three projects we run at a time.
■ Well-prepared projects: tendered trade packages, clear schedules, and start-up work organized before day one.
