Position DetailsPosition InformationPosition TitlePOSTDOCTORAL FELLOW – ACTS OF INTENTIONAL VIOLENCEPosting NumberPTAP3270PDepartment/UnitSocial WorkLocationHalifax, Nova Scotia, CanadaJob Summary & Key ResponsibilitiesA postdoctoral fellow (PDF) position is available in the BaCoR lab (Building a Culture of Resilience) led by Dr. Haorui Wu, Canada Research Chair (Tier 2) in Disaster and Resilience, within the School of Social Work, Faculty of Health, Dalhousie University, Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. The PDF will support a range of research projects examining the health and social impacts of intentional violence and developing related practice and policy interventions at the micro‑, meso‑, and macro‑levels across Canada and internationally. These projects include, but are not limited to, gender‑based violence (GBV) in 2S/LGBTQI+ communities in climate change and disaster settings; student‑initiatedviolence against faculty members in higher education; and forced displacementand trauma‑informed settlement services. The position will involve designing and implementing qualitative and quantitative research, analyzing data, and publishing findings. Depending on qualifications, the successful candidate may also co‑develop research grant applications, collaborate with stakeholders, develop policy briefs, scholarly outputs, and other knowledge mobilization products, and co‑supervise undergraduate and graduate students, among other tasks.Qualifications / RequirementsA doctoral degree by the appointment start date in a relevant field, such as Psychology, Social Work, Sociology, Public Health, Gender and Sexuality Studies, Disaster Science, Migration Studies, or related research areas.Demonstrated proficiency in qualitative and quantitative research design (e.G., Epidemiology and Biostatistics), data analysis and interpretation,



knowledge mobilization and ability to contribute to community‑engaged research.Strong record of scholarly writing and peer‑reviewed publications, as well as excellent oral communication skills for academic, professional, policy, and public audiences.Evidence of project management experience, including coordination of research activities, support for students and staff, and management of timelines, budgets and other project resources.Experience working in diverse and multicultural environments, with demonstrated cultural humility, intercultural competence, and the ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively within interdisciplinary teams and community partnerships.Start DateThe start date is flexible (anticipated June 1, 2026).Salary Range / Pay Rate$51,250 - $70,000 per year + advantages.Additional InformationDalhousie University commits to achieving inclusive excellence through continually championing equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility.
