Instructor, Carpentry Level 1, In-CommunityNorth Island College is seeking a qualified instructor for our Carpentry Apprenticeship Level 1 program to be delivered in Port Hardy. Responsibilities include instructing students in all elements of the BC Apprenticeship Level 1 program, program development and lesson planning, and tool and equipment maintenance.Duties & ResponsibilitiesInstructional– Plan and prepare learning materials, use varied approaches to address different learning needs, teach assigned subject areas, direct student learning in a supportive environment, maintain student records, and meet grading policies. Key teaching competencies include creating a positive climate and culture, effective communication, developing goals and objectives, focusing on key results, demonstrating continuous improvement, and interpersonal effectiveness.Commitment to Indigenous‑Lead, In‑Community Programming– Build respectful relationships with Indigenous communities, incorporate Indigenous knowledge systems, create culturally safe classrooms, provide holistic student support, and collaborate with Elders and community members.Typical Skilled Duties– Work within college policies, advise on resource needs, manage enrollment, address health and safety concerns, maintain technological proficiency, engage in professional development, participate in committees,
and fulfill related responsibilities.Required Education & ExperienceJourneyperson Interprovincial Qualification in Carpentry (Red Seal)Certificate of ApprenticeshipMinimum 5 years as a journeyperson across residential, commercial, and industrial projectsExperience instructing carpentry apprenticeship technical trainingCompletion of the Provincial Instructors Diploma programFamiliarity with the BC Carpentry program outlineExperience setting up training programs and managing budgetsRequired Knowledge, Skills & AbilitiesFamiliarity with the Carpentry program outlinesExcellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skillsProficiency with MS Office and learning technologiesDemonstrated instructional ability and use of digital toolsExperience with blended and online learning platformsStrong organizational and time‑management skillsCommitment to continuous improvementAbility to work both individually and cooperatively in a team environmentSalary and BenefitsThe annual salary range is $70,437 – $112,872 at 100% appointment, based on qualifications, experience, and the placement criteria of Article 14 of the NICFA Collective Agreement.Application ProcessApplicants should submit a resume, cover letter, and transcripts.
