Job DetailsJob Requisition Number:71Number of Positions:10Job Type:UnionJob Code:SCS107Department:COMMUNITY SERVICESDivision:Parks Maintenance & ForestryHourly Rate:$35.40 per hourJob Status and Duration:Temporary (T), vacancy for 6.00 monthsHours of Work:40 hour workweek / variable hoursLocation:Williams Parkway Operations CentreClosing Date:06/05/2026Area of ResponsibilityDiagnoses flower, shrub, and turf problems; selects and applies pesticides safely.Designs, prepares, and maintains annual beds, shrubs, and planters; plants, cultivates, prunes, fertilizes, and inspects beds.Directs assigned staff; schedules, verifies on‑site work, and provides horticultural training.Manages an individual budget: estimates, orders, receives, and reconciles supplies and hard goods.Selects trees and shrubs for replacement or recent planting; prunes and transplants trees while monitoring health and safety.Responds to on‑site public requests and provides information.Maintains turf areas (mowing, fertilizing, aerating, dethatching, irrigation, seeding, soding, herbicide/pesticide application).Inspects and maintains irrigation systems throughout the City.Handles interiorscaping for indoor plants: selects, purchases, designs, waters, fertilizes, repots, and applies pesticides.Implements Integrated Pest Management practices, adapting methods as required.Prepares stock requirements for tenders and advises suppliers.Attends seminars, trade shows, and maintains certifications.Researches new plants, equipment, materials, and methods; stays abreast of industry trends.Operates tractors, mowers, chainsaw, brush chipper, water and spraying equipment, snow removal equipment,



and hand tools; maintains equipment andsets up for park projects.Maintains park areas including litter and debris pickup, garbage can replacement, graffiti removal, and building cleanliness.Repairs or constructs park facilities: planters, beds, fencing, signs, pathways, sports facilities.Provides advice to Foreperson and Landscape Architects on horticulture, maintenance routines, pathways, and park planning matters.Liaises with industry professionals on projects and oversees contractor work.Performs winter maintenance: clears snow from walkways, bridges, outdoor ice rinks; salts and sands park areas; grooms ski trails.Inspects park facilities and fixtures regularly to identify required repairs and ensure public safety.Fulfills administrative duties: documents inspections, completes work orders, prepares weekly planners, and handles purchases.Maintains knowledge of applicable legislation, manuals, and procedures related to Environment, Workplace Health and Safety, and Vehicular Safety.Performs additional similar and related duties as assigned.EducationHigh school (Grade 12) graduation plus up to one year in Landscape Technology, Horticulture Science, or equivalent.Required ExperienceOver two (2) years, up to and including four (4) years in a horticulture, greens keeping, or gardening environment.Required Licences and CertificationsValid, non‑probationary Ontario Class D license with airbrake Z endorsement.Landscape Exterminator License.Other Skills and AssetsExceptional written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills, emphasizing customer service.Ability to work independently and as part of a team.Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.#J-18808-Ljbffr
