As a faith‑ and values‑based organization, we hire and serve people of all backgrounds and walks of life – there is a place for everyone to belong here.Mission StatementThe Salvation Army exists to share the love of Jesus Christ, meet human needs and be a transforming influence in the communities of our world.Job DescriptionJob Purpose:The Residential Care Worker provides a safe and secure environment for residents and visitors.Job DutiesMonitors the activities of clients/residents and maintains availability for personal, practical and morale support; may include safe storage and recording of prescribed medicationsAccurately records day‑to‑day happenings using appropriate methods; maintains logbooks and completes occurrence reportsLiaises with referral sources and other external agencies as needed (e.G., Welfare, police, urgent situations)Coordinates client care relating to security issues; may be directly involved in taking random urinalysis, breathalyzer tests, doing bed checks, ensuring adherence to check‑in times and curfewsMay carry out inspection/security checks of property and grounds in accordance with policies and proceduresHandles the admission, orientation and evaluation of clients’ understanding of rules, ensures ongoing enforcement of policies, which may include client disciplineMay handle finances relating to room rentals and meal tickets,



receipting of sameMay serve as reception for shelterMay prepare or provide simple meals for clients/residentsPerforms other duties as assignedMinimum Education Level AttainedThe successful applicant has completed high school, plus up to six months of specialized courses (e.G., addictions facilities).Eligibility and LicensesThe successful applicant will hold/have: Addiction Facility – Addictions counselling courses (see Precautionary Measures).Prior Related ExperienceMore than three months but less than one year of frontline experience in a social services setting.Physical Effort RequiredModerate keyboarding and walking around.Concentration RequiredContinuously monitoring the environment, security cameras and attentiveness when interacting with clients and recording information.Financial ResponsibilityInvolvement in minor financial matters, such as collecting or disbursing small amounts of cash.Human Resources ResponsibilityResponsible for own time and effort; may demonstrate work methods to recent employees, volunteers and/or students.Work EnvironmentDealing with angry or abusive peopleVerbal abuseIsolationWork schedule affecting lifestyleMay involve little or no travelCarrying a pager/walkie-talker and working shiftsHazard ExposuresPhysical attacks by othersExposure to infectious diseasesExposure to bodily fluidsSharp objectsOther dangerous situationsPrecautionary MeasuresUniversal precautionsImmunization for Hepatitis BVaccination against TuberculosisCurrent Certification in First Aid/CPRCriminal Police Record CheckNon‑violent crisis intervention trainingWHMIS TrainingAdult Abuse Registry CheckChild Abuse Registry CheckDriver’s AbstractUse of protective glovesUse of protective masks (as needed)CompensationThe target hiring range for this position is $16.66 to $16.66 with a maximum of $16.66.AccommodationsThe Salvation Army will provide reasonable accommodation upon request.
