You will conduct high-voltage power systems planning studies, prepare reports, and recommend solutions to manage capacity and reliability of the transmission system for safe and secure operation. Simulation of the power system is performed using sophisticated software such as PSS/e. You will develop scope specifications for high voltage transmission projects, assist in preparing Hydro One’s annual investment plan, and ensure compliance with standards (NERC, NPCC, IESO, OEB).Job FunctionAssist in the conduct of operations research, technical/economic/environmental/business/regulatory impact assessments and other specialized studies to determine transmission and distribution customer/system needs; assist in analysis of problems and development of strategies and preferred solutions; and assist in delivery of solutions through suppliers and service providers. Assist in the development, definition, and preparation of programs, processes, standards, procedures or methods related to the management of transmission/distribution assets. Assist in the preparation of business cases and other formal documents. Assist in the preparation of work specifications and contracts. Assist in monitoring, controlling, and redirecting programs and projects. Assist in coordinating activities with service providers. Assist in developing the business plan, budgets and regulatory submissions. Assist the unit on discussions and negotiations with customers, stakeholders, regulatory authorities and service providers.Job DescriptionAssist in the conduct of operations research,



technical/economic/environmental/business-regulatory impact assessments and other specialized studies to determine transmission and distribution customer/system needs.Assist in the analysis of problems, development of strategies and preferred solutions, and delivery of solutions through suppliers and service providers.Receive assignments from supervisor and research available resources, propose effective recommendations, prepare comprehensive reports and specifications, and present solutions.Assist in evaluating industry standards, keeping current with technical standards developments.Assist in development, definition, and preparation of programs, processes, standards, procedures or methods related to transmission/distribution asset management.Assist in reviewing and defining technical standards requirements for equipment, maintenance programs, asset condition and defect reports, and in developing and using database applications to monitor asset performance.Assist in preparing business cases for transmission/distribution asset management.Assist in preparing technical standards, work specifications, contracts, and providing technical direction to service providers; coordinate activities with service providers and stakeholders.Maintain contract databases as required.Assist in monitoring, controlling, and redirecting programs and projects; monitor service provider performance, report variances, give redirection, and resolve issues through negotiation.Assist in developing business plans,



budgets and regulatory submissions; prepare management reports and maintain management databases.Assist the unit in evaluating contracting processes and continuous improvement.Serve as a technical resource and consultant on transmission/distribution asset management matters; promote corporateproposals and facilitate stakeholder engagement.Maintain awareness of advancing technology developments and improvements in technical standards related to transmission/distribution assets.Provide guidance to others, assist in resolving work problems and train new staff in job responsibilities.EducationEngineering knowledge of electrical power systems, facilities, mathematics, and information technology to assist in theoretical, economic, and engineering analytical studies related to transmission/distribution/information systems.Knowledge of technical writing for effective reports.Good communication skills for effective presentations.Four-year university education in an appropriate field such as electrical engineering is typically required.ExperienceExperience in electrical power system operational requirements, policies, practices, and procedures for transmission/distribution/information assets.Experience related to design, performance, commissioning, operation, and maintenance of transmission/distribution/information assets.Utility experience with operation and maintenance of power systems dealing with customers and suppliers.Experience in applying information technology to management control systems.Experience in developing and organizing methods and work.Familiarity with scope and responsibilities of the position, transmission and distribution facilities, organization, and operation of related work groups.Understanding of transmission and distribution systems in Ontario and the technical standards used by electrical utilities.Over 4 to 6 years of relevant experience is considered necessary.Employment PracticesHydro One provides reasonable accommodation for qualified individuals with disabilities in the job application process.
