About Us

Sponge Learning Centre is a learning centre in Markham providing academic support and enrichment programs for elementary and middle school students. Our programs focus not only on academic improvement, but also on building strong learning habits, communication skills and confidence.

We are currently looking for a patient, engaging and responsible English Tutor to work with students primarily in Grades 1–6.

Responsibilities

- Provide English tutoring for students in Grades 1–6
- Support students in reading comprehension, vocabulary, grammar and writing
- Identify individual learning gaps and adjust lessons accordingly
- Help students improve school performance and build stronger English fundamentals
- Provide brief feedback on student progress after lessons
- Communicate with the centre regarding student needs and learning plans
- Prepare appropriate exercises and learning materials when needed





Qualifications
- Strong English communication and writing skills
- Experience working with elementary-aged students preferred
- Familiarity with the Ontario curriculum is an asset
- OCT, Education, English or related background is an asset
- Patient, encouraging and able to explain concepts clearly
- Responsible and reliable
- Able to commit to a consistent weekly schedule

- Understands that different students learn at different speeds
- Can build both academic skills and confidence
- Is interested in developing a long-term teaching relationship with our centre

Availability: Weekday afternoons/evenings and/or weekends preferred. Pay: $20.00-$45.00 per hour
