Job Summary The Environmental Services Intern is a developmental position designed to provide the successful candidate with comprehensive, practical training and experience in municipal public works, environmental services, and infrastructure operations.

The position combines hands-on field experience, formal training, equipment operation, job shadowing, and participation in the day-to-day operations of the Township's Public Works Department. A significant component of the internship will involve training and experience in Environmental Services, including water distribution system operations, waste management and landfill operations, environmental monitoring and reporting, and compliance with applicable legislation and municipal policies.

The internship is intended to provide the candidate with practical knowledge and transferable skills that will support future employment in municipal public works, environmental services, water distribution, waste management, infrastructure operations, or related environmental and technical fields.

Duties The Intern will receive training and practical experience in the following areas:

· Participate in training and work experience related to water distribution system operations and attain and maintain Operator-in-Training Water Distribution certification;

· Develop an understanding of water distribution system operation, maintenance, monitoring, and applicable regulatory requirements;

· Participate in winter control operations, including sidewalk and parking lot clearing and manual snow removal;

· Assist with the maintenance, inspection, and minor repair of municipal equipment;

· Maintain accurate and concise records of work activities and operational activities as required;





· Assist with the maintenance of roads and roadside infrastructure in both urban and rural areas within the Township;

· Assist with or perform minor building repairs and general municipal maintenance;

· Develop an understanding of Ontario One Call locate processes and methodologies for identifying and locating underground infrastructure;

· Develop knowledge of waste management principles and practices, including the operation, monitoring, record keeping, and reporting requirements associated with municipal waste disposal sites;

· Develop an understanding of environmental compliance requirements and the importance of accurate operational monitoring and reporting;

· Develop knowledge of municipal maintenance policies, Minimum Maintenance Standards, and other relevant legislation and regulatory requirements;

· Develop an understanding of cemetery operations, including maintenance and the marking and identification of grave sites;

· Work safely and comply with all applicable occupational health and safety requirements, policies, and procedures;

· Develop effective written and verbal communication skills;

· Maintain a strong work ethic and qualified approach to all assigned duties;

· Maintain clean, orderly, and safe work areas; and

· Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

- Graduated from a program in Environmental Science, Geography, Horticulture, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field (considered an asset)
- Proficiency in GIS software; experience with AutoCAD is a plus
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel & Outlook
- Strong data analysis skills with the ability to interpret complex datasets effectively
- Experience in data collection methods for environmental research projects
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work independently as well as part of a team

Pay: From $30.09 per hour
