Sources strives to create vibrant and resilient communities through support to adults, children, youth, and families facing challenges in life such as mental health, disability, poverty, substance use, and conflict. Description of Position: Sources Community Living provides all-encompassing care for individuals who have been referred to us by Community Living British Columbia. We are currently recruiting for a Life Skills Instructor to develop and deliver meaningful daytime activities that offer opportunities for individuals to increase independence, participate in new experiences and build life skills. You will be responsible for supporting individuals both in group settings and independently, based on the personalized plan required.
These programs support individuals with intellectual disabilities and mental health-related needs. Our mission is to enable the pursuit of the best quality of life possible for our clients. We do this by fostering independence, well-being, and social participation. Reporting to:
Life Skills Assistant Managers and Program Coordinators General Responsibilities: Build relationships Coach and guide Aid and support Work as a collaborative team Program-specific Responsibilities: Keep notes and review progress Plan and implement group and individual programming Maintain a protected work environment for both staff and service users alike, including following and monitoring all positive behaviour support strategies as they apply to clients in service. This includes being confident and familiar with Non-Violent Crisis Intervention material. Physical Demands of Job: *may vary based on client needs Lifting/Pulling/Pushing - 50%, Walking/Moving Around - 75%, Sitting - 25%, Time spent outside - 50%, Bending/Crouching - 25% Cognitive Demands of Job: Qualifications: You have a valid Class 5 or higher BC driver's license You have a clear driver's abstract You are knowledgeable or have experience in areas of mental health and intellectual disabilities Able to commit to a minimum of one shift per week Person-centred approach and advocacy Take initiative and work with integrity Sound judgement and decision-making skills You have the physical ability to engage in a variety of home and community-based activities All employees, regardless of benefit eligibility, have access to an Employee & Family Assistance Program.
