Financeit is a company where collaboration, inclusivity, fairness, and respect aren't just ideas that get talked about, but are part of who we are.About the roleAs the Sr. Manager, Commercial & Channel Risk Strategy, reporting to the Director of Risk Strategy, you will develop channel risk management, commercial/small business (B2B) risk management and customer (B2B2C) credit risk management strategies for our largest verticals (home improvement and powersports lending) and for sensitive products such as multi‑stage project financing. You will use a balanced strategic and analytical approach to optimise profitability while managing and mitigating risk across the business.What you’ll doDevelop a company framework for managing channel risk, individual merchant risk, commercial product (multi‑stage financing) risk, and concentration risk (e.G., sub‑vertical, geography, macroeconomic).Build, deploy, maintain, and continuously improve profit‑optimising channel and merchant‑level underwriting strategies, decisioning criteria, scores and controls.Support the development and continuous improvement of profit‑optimising indirect consumer credit policies, strategies and tests for the home improvement and vehicle industries, ensuring commercial counterparty exposure and channel effects are considered.Obtain internal alignment on, and deploy, risk policies that are compliant with the organisation’s risk appetite and review or approve/decline requests outside established guidelines.Monitor strategy performance over time, develop and execute back‑testing,
and guide reporting and trigger requirements in collaboration with cross‑functional stakeholders.Conduct regular financial and risk reviews of merchants and loan quality audits, and recommend changes to policies and procedures based on identified process gaps while ensuring corrective action is taken.Identify high‑quality data sources and opportunities to apply AI and automation to key processes, reports and documentation to improve team efficiency and effectiveness.Investigate trends, anomalies, and analytic findings to link them to real‑world events, macroeconomic events, industry developments, and/or merchant/customer attitudes and behaviours to provide insights that improve business outcomes.Collaborate with cross‑functional partners to incorporate their ideas and objectives into risk strategies.Contribute to strategic projects and initiatives related to risk management and company growth.Bring energy, positivity, and a team‑first attitude every day while striving to improve the team and yourself.RequirementsUniversity degree in Engineering, Math, Computer Science, Applied Math/Sciences, Commerce, Finance, Accounting, or another quantitative discipline.5‑7 years of full‑time and/or internship/PEY experience in B2B (small business/commercial) and/or B2B2C (indirect channel) strategy, analytics, data science, credit and/or fraud risk management, or finance with a significant focus on both qualitative (expert judgment/manual underwriting) and quantitative (statistical scorecard development) approaches.3+ years of applied experience conducting complex B2B (small business / commercial)
risk assessments, financial statement analysis, indirect lending / consumer credit risk, or business analysis at a financial institution – a solid asset.3+ years of experience building quantitative and qualitative strategic plans, policies and business models.3+ years of experience creating senior‑management‑ready communications and presentations with Excel, PowerPoint and Word (or Google equivalents).Advanced skills in data manipulation and statistical modeling, with proficiency in Python, SQL, Excel and/or BI tools such as Looker, Tableau and PowerBI.Strong strategic thinking, judgment and communication (verbal, visual and written) with advanced problem‑solving and analytical skills.Legitimately curious and passionate about finding the "right answer," with a detail‑oriented mindset and a healthy sense of paranoia about quality.Highly organized and driven, able to manage competing priorities while meeting deadlines.Balanced sense of pride and humility, thriving in a collaborative environment and bringing energy and enthusiasm to team culture.BenefitsWinner of Canada’s Most Admired Corporate Cultures for two consecutive years.
