Overview

We are a wellness focused health cafe and are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Kitchen Assistant to join our culinary team. The ideal candidate will have a passion for food and a willingness to learn in a fast-paced kitchen workplace. This role is essential in supporting the kitchen staff with meal preparation, food handling, dish washing and clean up, and ensuring that our kitchen operates smoothly and efficiently.

Hours: Monday-Friday afternoons/evenings

Duties

- Assist in the preparation of meals
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen, including washing dishes and sanitizing surfaces.
- Support chefs with food preparation tasks, including assembling ingredients for various dishes.
- Ensure all food safety standards are adhered to during food handling and preparation.
- Operate kitchen equipment safely and effectively, following all operational guidelines.
- Assist in catering events by preparing and serving food as directed by the head chef.
- Collaborate with team members to ensure timely service during busy periods.
- Participate in inventory management by helping to track supplies and report shortages.




- Handle customer transactions and operate the cash register

Qualifications

- Previous experience in a kitchen or restaurant setting is preferred.
- Strong knife skills and knowledge of cooking techniques are advantageous.
- Familiarity with meal preparation and food service practices is beneficial.
- Understanding of food safety regulations and best practices for food handling.
- Ability to work efficiently under pressure while maintaining attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills, customer service, and a team-oriented attitude.
- A passion for the culinary arts and a desire to grow within the food industry.
