TOP GUN HD LTD. is expanding our Fort McMurray mining operations and is looking for experienced Journeyman Off-Road Heavy Duty Technicians with strong backgrounds working on large-scale mining and earthmoving equipment.
This is a 14-on / 14-off rotational position supporting heavy equipment in an active mining environment.
Flights are provided from Edmonton or Calgary, along with accommodation while on rotation, making this an excellent opportunity for experienced technicians throughout Alberta who want a consistent two-week-on, two-week-off schedule.

THE OPPORTUNITY We're looking for experienced Journeyman Off-Road Heavy Duty Technicians who know large mining equipment and are comfortable working in demanding industrial environments.
This isn't a light-duty fleet position.
We're looking for technicians with the knowledge and hands-on experience to diagnose, troubleshoot, repair and maintain large off-road mining and earthmoving equipment where uptime, safety and quality workmanship matter.
Our ideal candidate has extensive experience with equipment such as:
- Ultra-class and large mining haul trucks
- Large hydraulic excavators
- Mining shovels
- Large dozers
- Wheel loaders
- Motor graders
- Articulated haul trucks
- Large earthmoving and support equipment
- Heavy hydraulic and powertrain systems
Experience working with major mining equipment manufacturers and platforms is highly valued, including:
- Caterpillar
- Komatsu
- Liebherr
- Hitachi
- Other large-scale mining and earthmoving equipment
WHAT YOU'LL DO As an Off-Road Heavy Duty Technician, you'll be responsible for maintaining and repairing equipment in an active mining environment.
Your responsibilities may include
- Diagnose and repair large off-road mining equipment
- Troubleshoot complex mechanical, electrical and hydraulic faults
- Perform major and minor equipment repairs
- Diagnose diesel engine and powertrain concerns
- Repair and replace engines, transmissions, torque converters and differentials
- Troubleshoot and repair high-pressure hydraulic systems
- Diagnose electrical and electronic control systems
- Perform repairs on steering, suspension and braking systems
- Complete cooling, fuel, exhaust and emissions-system repairs
- Perform preventative maintenance and scheduled equipment servicing
- Complete component replacements and major repair work
- Perform equipment inspections and identify developing failures
- Utilize OEM diagnostic software and electronic troubleshooting systems
- Complete accurate technician notes, work orders and time tracking
- Work closely with site maintenance and operations personnel
- Maintain strict compliance with mine-site safety requirements
- Deliver repairs to TOP GUN HD's standards for quality and workmanship
WHAT YOU BRING
- Journeyman Off-Road Heavy Duty Technician certification – required
- Strong experience working on large mining and/or earthmoving equipment
- Previous experience in a Fort McMurray oil sands or mining environment is a strong asset
- Strong diesel engine, hydraulic, electrical and powertrain knowledge
- Advanced diagnostic and troubleshooting ability
- Experience with major component removal and replacement
- Ability to confidently diagnose equipment rather than simply replace parts
- Strong understanding of preventative maintenance and equipment reliability
- Ability to work independently in a demanding field environment
- Strong attention to detail and pride in workmanship
- Excellent safety awareness
- Dependable and able to successfully complete a 14/14 rotation
- Valid Class 5 Driver's Licence or higher
- Acceptable driver's abstract
- Ability to successfully complete site and pre-employment requirements
MINING EXPERIENCE MATTERS We're especially interested in hearing from technicians with hands-on experience maintaining large Caterpillar, Komatsu, Liebherr and Hitachi mining equipment.
Experience with large mining haul trucks, dozers, excavators, shovels, loaders and major component repairs will be considered a significant asset.
We value technicians who can diagnose the root cause of a failure,
work efficiently under pressure and understand the importance of equipment availability in a production mining environment.
SAFETY & SITE REQUIREMENTS
Successful candidates must hold or be willing and eligible to obtain applicable site requirements, which may include:
- CSO / CSTS
- H2S
- First Aid
- Fall Protection
- Confined Space
- Mask Fit Testing
- Audiometric Testing
- Site-specific orientations and certifications
- Pre-employment and site-required Drug & Alcohol Testing
