About This Opportunity
Help create an unforgettable Alberta Day at Heritage Park on Sunday, August 30, 2026!
Last year, approximately 30,000 people visited Heritage Park for this exciting free-admission celebration. This year, we’re looking for friendly, confident volunteers to help thousands of guests feel welcome, find their way and enjoy a safe, memorable day.
Choose From Several Guest Experience Roles
Activity Site Volunteer: Keep lineups organized at popular locations such as the Alberta Bakery, Midway Treatery, Candy Store and Ice Cream Parlour.
Door Host: Welcome guests to historic buildings, manage visitor capacity and share directions and interesting site information.
Platform Line Monitor: Help organize train lineups and support safe, orderly boarding and exiting at Shepard Station.
Depending on your assignment, you may greet guests, answer questions, share estimated wait times, provide directions, manage lineups and help keep busy pathways clear. Most importantly, you’ll bring a positive attitude and help make the wait part of the experience!
Shift options
Morning: 10:00 a.m.–1:30 p.m. Recommended check-in by 9:15 a.m.
Afternoon: 1:30–5:00 p.m. Recommended check-in by 12:45 p.m.
Full day: Sign up for both shifts and receive a lunch break between them.
Volunteers should arrive at least 45 minutes before their shift. This allows enough time to check in at the Railway Orientation Centre, receive event-day instructions and travel to their assigned volunteer location.
You’ll Be a Great Fit If You
Are at least 16 years old
Are friendly,
dependable and comfortable speaking with guests
Can provide polite but confident direction
Are comfortable in a busy, noisy workplace
Can work outdoors and stand for most of your shift
Enjoy being part of a large community celebration
No previous experience is required. Pre-event orientation and role-specific guidance will be provided. Some assignments may include using a Heritage Park radio.
What volunteers receive An Alberta Day volunteer T-shirt and lanyard
Meals based on the shift schedule A certificate of volunteer participation, available following the event The chance to be part of one of Heritage Park’s largest celebrations of the year
Please dress for the weather, wear comfortable shoes and bring a reusable water bottle. Period clothing is not required.
Because this is a high-attendance event, volunteers are strongly encouraged to use public transit. Limited volunteer parking will be available.
Some roles involve extended standing, uneven ground, outdoor weather and large crowds. Accessibility accommodations may be limited for certain assignments; please tell us about any accommodation needs when applying so we can explore suitable options.
Join the Alberta Day team and help thousands of guests celebrate Alberta’s community, culture and history!
