Associate Vice President, Government Relations & Strategic FundingPosition Title: Associate Vice President, Government Relations & Strategic FundingStatus: Full‑Time AdministrationHours: 37.5 hours per weekFaculty/Department: Government RelationsCampus/Location: Primary North Campus; Secondary Lakeshore Campus and Humber Downtown (IGS); HybridMinimumStarting Salary: $162,037 (based on qualifications and experience)About the RoleReporting to the Chief of Staff to the President and CEO, this role leads Humber Polytechnic’s strategic engagement with federal, provincial and municipal governments, supporting the President in high‑level government interactions and positioning Humber for public funding success. The Associate Vice President is the institution’s primary strategist in government relations, ensuring that engagements with ministers, parliamentary assistants, elected officials, and senior public servants are well‑prepared, strategically aligned, and outcome‑oriented.Key ResponsibilitiesPresident Support & Executive Meeting PreparationServe as the President’s principal advisor on government relations strategy and engagementPrepare concise briefing materials for senior‑level government meetings, including purpose, stakeholder profiles, key messages, risks, and recommended framingAdvise on engagement posture and conduct post‑meeting debriefsGovernment Relations Strategy & Relationship ManagementDevelop and maintain a comprehensive government relations strategy aligned to institutional prioritiesBuild and manage a government relationship map identifying key stakeholders, relationship strength and strategic interestsCoordinate senior‑level engagement across Humber to ensure consistency of messagingPolitical & Policy IntelligenceMonitor and analyze political, policy, and funding developmentsTrack priorities, budgets, cabinet changes,
election cyclesMaintain intelligence channels and produce briefings on emerging risks and opportunitiesStrategic Grant & Public Funding PositioningLead positioning for major provincial and federal grantsIdentify and prioritize funding opportunities aligned with Humber’s objectivesPrepare grant briefs articulating alignment, value proposition and engagement strategyInstitutional Alignment & GovernanceEstablish protocols for government engagement and presidential involvementServe as liaison between executive leadership and academic/administrative unitsContribute to Board and Cabinet materials on government relations as requiredQualificationsEducationUniversity degree in public policy, political science, public administration, law, or related field; graduate degree preferredExperienceSignificant senior‑level experience in government (provincial/federal) or government relations, public affairs, or policy strategyExperience influencing or supporting public funding or policy outcomesExperience briefing senior executives, elected officials, or deputy‑level public servantsStrong understanding of public‑sector governance and funding environmentsExperience in postsecondary education or broader public‑sector institutions preferredDirect knowledge of Ontario and/or federal government processes preferredExperience supporting complex, multi‑stakeholder initiatives preferredKnowledge, Skills & AbilitiesExceptional political judgment and discretionStrong strategic thinking and analytical skillsOutstanding written and verbal communicationExperience and success in proposal writing,
