About the Department - Facilities ManagementMount Royal University’s Facilities Management (FM) department is responsible for the planning, development, construction, design, operation, maintenance, safety, security and stewardship of all the buildings, infrastructure, sites and services within Mount Royal's campus community. Through efficient and environmentally sustainable operation, we offer grounds, custodial, building operations, facilities planning, security services and engineering skilled services to provide a physical environment that supports and enhances our academic space for students and staff. Our team of professionals are dedicated to providing customer service excellence. Our staff respond to daily service requests and emergency/ priority situations as needed.About the RoleReporting to the Manager, Central Plant & Mechanical, the Energy Management Specialist will monitor, control, and optimize the University’s energy consumption to conserve usage, reduce costs, and minimize environmental impact.THIS is a full-time two year limited term position working 7 hours per day, five days per week, Monday to Friday. Overtime may be required to meet timelines.ResponsibilitiesResponsible for developing and implementing energy initiatives with a focus on energy conservationDevelop and implement projects to help achieve goals outlined in the Energy Management PlanConduct energy audits, identify cost savings opportunities, and develop business cases around these opportunitiesStay apprised of and lead the application process for financial incentives/rebates/grants related to energy for applicable projects within the capital planning and FM teamsAct as an integral stakeholder for new capital projects to help guide decision‑making to align with MRU’s long‑term energy management goals and policiesWork with energy management partners to develop energy saving proposals and infrastructure improvement measuresUtility Administration/Budgets/Tracking/MeasuringPerform monthly utility invoicing,



and cost/consumption review and analysis using EnergyCap and other online sub‑metering software solutionsSupport reconciliation of the utilities budgetReport to ministries and government bodies as required for provincial and federal regulations, Statistic Canada energy production surveys, etc.Support FM with energy monitoring, verification, auditing and procurement activitiesCoordinate the sourcing, installation, and calibration of energy submetering as required and coordinate using portable metering to assist in the measurement of energy for projectsProcurement Practices, Contract Administration & Technical SupportWork with procurement for purchasing energy efficient equipment and establishing best practices and policies in purchasesSupport the oversight of utility procurement contracts for MRUDevelop tender specifications for energy projects including recommissioning and coordinate work with consultants, contractors, trades and project managersProvide regular technical support to projects and operations groups to improve the efficiency and reliability of mechanical and electrical systemsDevelop and oversee MRU’s Energy Management PlanCreate energy policies and procedures to foster energy efficient practices across the universityDevelop energy designs and performance standards for projects and operations groups and supports the capital planning processEnergy Engagement Education & AwarenessIn consultation with Communications, develop and implement communication strategies,



promotional materials and educational information to support program goals.Engage internal stakeholders to align work with energy goals and objectivesDevelop and present information to groups throughout the organization as requiredPromote energy efficiency and strategies for reduction within the organizationQualifications2 Year Diploma in Engineering Technology or Energy Management is requiredCertified Energy Manager (CEM) or Energy Manager in Training (EMIT) would be an asset5 - 8 years of experience is required, including:Strong technical background in building systems, including HVAC, CHP, building automation systems, energy monitoring systems, lighting, motors, speed drivesDemonstrated understanding of:Provincial and federal energy regulations and reportingEnergy, utility, and contract managementPerforming financial analysis and business case developmentEnergy standards, energy audits, energy calculationsApplicable building codes and standardsDemonstrated competency / expertise in:Electrical and mechanical building systemsInformation gathering and data analysisManaging projects and developing reportsEnergy cost analysisEnergy conservation practices, ideally in an educational settingProficient in computer software including Microsoft Office, Archibus, EnergyCap, energy/utility management software, building automation software, RETscreenAdvanced analytical, planning, and problem‑solving skillsFacilitation, presentation and training delivery skillsExcellent organizational and analytical skills.Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.Proven ability to work independently, organize, prioritize and expedite workflows.Salary : $69,487.60 - $87,978.80 per annum ($71,580.60 - $90,617.80 per annum effective July 1, 2026)We encourage all qualified applicants to apply, however, Canadian citizens, permanent residents and others currently legally authorized to work in Canada will be given priority.
