Team Lead, Radio OperatorThe Shubenacadie Radio Communications Centre (SRCC) provides public safety and public works dispatch and call notification services to hundreds of organizations at all levels of Government in Nova Scotia. We are a division of the Nova Scotia Department of Emergency Management; Nova Scotia’s lead agency for emergency planning, response, and recovery, working closely with municipalities to help communities prepare for, respond to, and recover from emergencies.About Our OpportunityAs a Team Lead, Radio Operator, you play a key leadership role in a high‑trust, high‑impact emergency communications environment. You act as a bridge between dispatch operators and management, providing operational leadership, coaching, and technical expertise to ensure consistent, high‑quality support in emergency response and community safety. You are a subject matter expert in dispatch operations and equipment, supporting staff in real‑time decision‑making while contributing to continuous improvement across systems, procedures, and training. Your leadership helps ensure that emergency communications remain accurate, coordinated, and responsive during moments that matter most for communities across the province. In this role, you translate complex, time‑sensitive information into clear, actionable messages that support public safety during high‑pressure events.Primary AccountabilitiesProvide on‑site supervision and operational leadership to dispatch operators, ensuring adherence to policies, procedures, and service standards.Act as the first point of escalation for staff issues and complex client concerns.Support the implementation of new initiatives, procedures, and operational improvements.Deliver coaching, feedback, and quality assurance to support individual and team performance.Train and mentor new dispatch operators and contribute to training and operational materials.Manage schedules, attendance, and leave approvals.Prepare daily shift reports and maintain accurate operational documentation.Foster a respectful,



collaborative, and productive team environment.Perform dispatch operator duties as required to support breaks, coverage gaps, and peak activity periods.Qualifications and ExperienceCompletion of a related two‑year post‑secondary degree and at least three years of related experience (with at least one year supervisory). The successful candidate must complete a three‑month on‑site training program. You are skilled at managing multiple, simultaneous tasks and maintaining focus in fast‑paced environments. You can interpret and apply Standard Operating Procedures and Memorandums of Understanding, providing clear guidance and informed decision‑making support to your team. You communicate effectively, build respectful working relationships, and demonstrate sound judgement, organisation, and leadership under pressure. Team Leads work in a fast‑paced environment with multiple simultaneous audio and visual inputs, including constant radio, telephone,



and computer system monitoring. Explicit verbal communication, excellent hearing, and very good or corrected vision are required. Shifts are 12 hours and rotate between days and nights, typically 07:30 to 19:30 or 19:30 to 07:30.The work includes consistent headset use, ongoing computer work, and fine hand and finger movements. Operators may sit or stand at their discretion and will occasionally move within the workspace to access equipment such as printers or terminals. Occasional reaching, bending, or light lifting may be required to manage equipment or workstations. Because this role directly supports emergency response and frontline services, incumbents may be exposed to high‑pressure situations, including interactions with distressed members of the public and information related to serious incidents involving injury, loss of life, or property damage. The ability to maintain concentration, manage competing demands, and work within fixed timelines is essential.Travel may be required periodically to attend meetings. Overtime and call‑backs may occur depending on operational needs.
