SalaryThe salary range for this position is CAD $115.39 - $154.48 / hourJob SummaryWe are seeking a committed and driven Medical Health Officer‑Medical Director (MHO‑MD) who wants to lead and implement programs that make a difference in our communities. This is a dynamic and pivotal role that provides the opportunity to apply skills and training in generalist public health practice, as well as undertake strategy and operations work within a regional portfolio, and develop connections from the local to provincial level.The incoming candidate will work under the direction of, and report to, the Chief Medical Health Officer and Vice President, Population and Public Health (CMHO and VP, PPH) for legislated duties, as well as work closely with the Executive Medical Director, Population and Public Health (EMD, PPH) and the Medical Health Officer team for regional portfolio MD and geographic MHO duties. The next MHO‑MD will be a progressive health care leader who promotes cultural safety, encourages current health care initiatives and programs, and is passionate about quality in public health.ResponsibilitiesWork in a dyad partnership with Clinical Directors to provide specialized strategic oversight and management of Population and Public Health programs and services, including toxic drug response, communicable disease, health protection, immunizations, maternal‑child health, population health promotion, and others.Provide geographical MHO leadership within the Fraser East, Fraser North, or Fraser South areas, including community health, school health, health protection, and communicable disease,



with support from local teams.Lead MHO statutory programs for Fraser Health and the Province, as determined by the CMHO and VP, PPH.Fulfill legislated responsibilities to the Province, Municipalities, Regional Districts, and School Boards to align professional standards for MHOs in BC.Build and enhance effective partnerships with academic institutions, professional associations, and other community and clinical settings.Champion new health care initiatives and programs in support of Fraser Health’s strategic goals and objectives.Carry out legislated requirements of the Public Health Act and related legislation, including communicable disease prevention and control, and perform statutory functions within the Health Authority.Work with PPH Clinical Directors to provide strong clinical leadership and joint decision‑making accountability for delivery of PPH regional programs and services; set priorities, formulate strategy, make budget recommendations, address capacity gaps, and manage internal and external communications.Provide evidence‑based opinions and collaborate with FH staff, physicians, municipal councils, school boards,



other government ministries and the community on public health issues; act as a consultant in community medicine/public health preventive medicine.Lead engagement with physicians within and outside of the Health Authority.Monitor and assess the health status of the community, support the VP PH and CMHO in making recommendations, and prepare reports, briefs, and profiles on significant health issues.Assist in evaluating effectiveness of health programs, planning and evaluating programs addressing emerging health issues, and participate in research projects on effectiveness or efficiency of public health interventions.Advocate for actions that improve population health, communicate directly with the public and elected officials, and contribute to health planning for the region.QualificationsCompleted Medical Degree and eligibility for full license to practice medicine in British Columbia, plus a Master’s in Health Sciences or equivalent; FRCPC designationin Public Health and Preventive Medicine / Community Medicine is required.Demonstrated experience with health program administration and management, including serving on medical advisory committees, program budget and labour relations, and community advisory committees.Proven ability to exercise sound judgement, action and discretion in performing responsibilities.Current BC Driver’s License and access to a personal vehicle for business‑related purposes.Demonstrated leadership skills, ability to create and support innovation, communication skills (written, oral, and public presentation), maintain effective working relationships with senior executives, boards, agencies, and professionals, problem‑solving abilities, and a commitment to continuous learning.#J-18808-Ljbffr
