HDR is currently seeking a Civil Engineer. The successful candidate will be involved in design and project coordination and will work closely with a multi‑disciplinary project team to create high‑quality design solutions.Reporting to the Civil Engineering Lead, the Civil Engineer is a member of the integrated project team that contributes site civil engineering knowledge and analysis to the project during the design and construction phase of our work. The project mix is varied across building and infrastructure projects, including new residential and commercial developments, data centers, health facilities, industrial and waste‑management facilities.The role involves working on multi‑disciplinary projects with project sites in various locations across North America, including the Greater Toronto Area, western Canada and various locations in the United States.ResponsibilitiesDesign and plan production for general civil on a wide variety of projects, including site layouts, horizontal and vertical control, grading and drainage, paving, site utilities, and associated civil engineering activitiesPerform quantity calculationsPrepare specifications and contract documentsPerform complex assignments exercising judgment in evaluation, selection and modification of standard engineering techniques and proceduresMake decisions on significant design and engineering procedures as neededDevelop conceptual, preliminary and detailed site civil design packages, including drawings, quantities and specificationsComplete civil design in Autodesk Civil 3D, including site grading and drainage, roadway, wet utilities design (storm sewer, sanitary sewer and water main)Coordinate civil design with multidisciplinary project teamAssist the project manager in the day‑to‑day coordination of projectsFunction as a Technical Specialist or Project Coordinator as neededSupervise a small staff of professionals and techniciansPreferred QualificationsMinimum of 5 years’ experience in municipal infrastructure design using Civil 3DFamiliarity with site civil and road design practices including application of design standards, TAC Geometric Design Guide, various provincial and municipal standardsProficiency with AutoCAD and Autodesk Civil 3DAbility to work independently and as part of a teamProficiency with utility modeling (gravity and pressure pipes) in Civil 3DMicroStation and OpenRoads experience is welcomeExperience with municipal and provincial clients in OntarioExperience with feasibility studiesRequired QualificationsBachelor’s degreePrevious experience in general civil engineeringProfessional engineering license recognized by the licensing board for the location of the position offered (e.G., PE or P.Eng.)Demonstrated leadership and communication skillsProficient with Microsoft OfficeGood verbal and written communication skillsAttitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee‑owned culture is a mustOther Job DetailsCompliance with HDR and, as applicable, contractor safety and proceduresPotential attendance at job sites to support design and construction activitiesWe provide a comprehensive benefits package that promotes employee ownership, health, performance, and success, including medical, dental, vision, short- and long-term disability, life insurance, an employee assistance program, paid time away, parental leave, paid holidays, a retirement savings plan with employer match, employee referral bonus and tuition reimbursement.
