We are poised for significant growth as we expand into new services, markets, and geographic locations.The RoleWe are seeking an individual with experience, passion and vision to fill a vacancy on our leadership team. Join our dynamic finance team as the Controller, reporting directly to the CFO (with frequent interaction with the entire Management Team) in a role that blends hands‑on leadership with high‑impact strategic influence. You will oversee core financial operations and drive process improvements to support growth for the entire organization.This is an opportunity to shape SMS’s financial future alongside a visionary leadership team. As the leader of the finance function, you will manage a team of direct reports and guide them towards peak performance through hands‑on coaching and clear goal setting.Elevate your leadership and accounting expertise in a collaborative culture that values innovation, rewards initiative, and offers clear pathways for rapid career growth within our expanding industry.What You’ll DoOversee all day-to-day financial operations of the accounting team and the reconciliation of all key balance sheet and income statement accounts.Manage two general ledgers to ensure granularity exists for management reporting, including: i) separation of variable, fixed and semi-variable costs for gross margin analysis, ii) payroll by business line and type of worker and iii) inventory management.Manage the timely cut-off and close processes.Collaborate closely with the CFO on operational challenges,
strategic initiatives and accounting policy development (ASPE).Partner with cross-functional leaders in operations, sales and HR to align financial strategies with company‑wide goals.Mentor a team of accountants and foster a culture of performance excellence, innovation and inclusion.Provide strategic financial insights to support executive decision‑making and business growth initiatives.Manage relationships with external auditors, banks, tax advisors, and other financial stakeholders.Implement and maintain robust internal controls that optimize operations and reduce risk throughout the organization.Assist in the implementation or augmentation of CRM/ERM or other enterprise‑wide technology platforms while ensuring data integrity as it flows into/out of the accounting department.Drive process improvements through the organization.What We’re Looking ForCompleted (or nearly completed) CPA designation required (CA, CMA, CGA, or CPA Canada) with 5+ year of progressive leadership experience.Degree/Diploma in finance, accounting, or related field.Advanced proficiency in QuickBooks Desktop, with expert‑level command of its advanced features, customizations and integrations.Prior work experience in an accounting practice and exposure to the preparation of working papers, corroborating documents and other supporting materials that aid in assessing the reasonableness of financial information and the development of accounting policy.Exceptional oral and written English communication skills, with an ability to articulate complex ideas clearly and construct compelling,
