With the support of your principal and West Coast LEAF’s legal team, you will participate in a series of legal projects with increasing responsibilities.



These projects may include:Interventions before tribunals and all levels of courtTest case litigationCommunity‑based research and report writingDevelopment of public legal education programmingResponsibilitiesConduct legal research and prepare memoranda.Engage in case and issue monitoring.Draft court applications, documents, and submissions.Appear before courts and tribunals on behalf of West Coast LEAF.Plan and conduct community‑based research (e.G., through organizing community dialogue sessions).Draft law reform reports and recommendations.Draft public legal education curricula and resources.Facilitate workshops, meetings, consultations, and dialogues.Draft emails, press releases, webpages, and other public communications.Qualifications and attributesYou have a demonstrated commitment to advancing gender equality and challenging inequities connected to settler colonialism, racism, classism, patriarchy, transmisogyny, ableism, and other forms of oppression. You approach your work with an ethic of relationship‑building, deep collaboration, curiosity, and openness to diverse perspectives and experiences. You are keen to develop a spectrum of advocacy skills in a dynamic and supportive work environment.The following qualifications and attributes are assets for this role:Strong skills in legal research,



legal analysis, and the ability to distill legal concepts into plain language for a wide variety of audiences.Strong writing ability without reliance on generative AI tools.Experience with public speaking, presentation and workshop facilitation.The ability to manage multiple tasks and details effectively.Familiarity with areas of law and policy that have distinct impacts on communities marginalized on the basis of gender, race, disability, poverty, Indigeneity, place of origin, etc. (e.G., constitutional law, human rights law, administrative law, criminal law).Compassionate, clear, and skilled communication skills.Experience with or aptitude for community‑led participatory research and community collaboration.Curiosity and commitment to ongoing learning and unlearning, especially in connection with decolonizing practices and combatting multiple forms of oppression (stemming from misogyny, classism, colonialism, racism, sexism, patriarchy, ableism, etc.).Strong initiative and a proactive work style.Compensation and benefitsYou will be paid a full‑time salary of $69,000, plus benefits, during your articling student term.
