Job OverviewThe City of Burnaby is looking for individuals with a passion in Ceramics to join the technician teams at the Shadbolt Center for the Arts, Christine Sinclair Community Centre, and the Bonsor Recreation Complex. As a Ceramic Technician you will operate ceramic arts equipment and oversee specialized studios during seasonal programs, provide technical expertise in operating, maintaining and firing electric kilns, monitor cleanliness and security of equipment, and assist with equipment maintenance.ResponsibilitiesOperate ceramic arts equipment and oversee specialized studios during seasonal programs.Operate, maintain, and fire the electric kiln and ensure the studios remain operational.Monitor cleanliness and security of equipment and tools while assisting with maintenance tasks.Ensure proper and protected usage of equipment and materials, adhering to policies, procedures, regulations, and safety precautions.Instruct children and adult classes,



teaching multiple ceramic methods including hand building and sculpture.Perform related work as required.QualificationsCompleted a two‑year diploma in Fine Arts with a ceramic specialty or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.Sound knowledge of methods, practices, techniques, materials, tools and equipment used in ceramic studios and firing kilns.Knowledge of policies, codes, regulations, hazards and safety precautions related to ceramic work.Teaching methods and effective communication skills for instruction of safety and ceramic skills to groups.Ability to support users engaged in ceramic programs, communicate effectively orally and in writing, and deal effectively with internal and external contacts.Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs.WHMIS Certification and First Aid Certificate.CompensationPay Rate:$34.25 per hour with 12% in lieu of benefits.LocationShadbolt Centre for the Arts, Christine Sinclair Community Centre and Bonsor Recreation Complex.Hours of WorkThese are auxiliary positions; hours and shifts are dependent on operational requirements and are scheduled by the department on an as needed basis.#J-18808-Ljbffr
