OverviewThe Zurich Canada Toronto Contract Surety team is seeking an Assistant Vice President – Core Contract Surety. This role will report directly to the National Director, Core Contract Surety and will be responsible for new business production, underwriting and retention of existing accounts. The candidate will also engage in the marketplace to elevate the Zurich Canada brand.What you will doProduce and underwrite new and existing contract surety business.Serve as key contact and underwrite an assigned portfolio of accounts with a high level of autonomy.Conduct thorough assessments of customer financial, technical and organizational capacity within Zurich’s appetite and sound business opportunity, following department policies.Provide detailed financial and credit analysis recommendations for bond and account support.Proactively seek new account opportunities by managing existing relationships and developing new ones with key brokers.Make broker or customer calls with a planned and well‑prepared purpose.Negotiate account and/or bond specific terms and conditions.Participate and lead team meetings, providing updates related to portfolio, brokers, territory and market intelligence.Develop and manage a qualified list of target account opportunities.Support internal and external marketing for cross‑sell efforts.Contribute to underwriting manuals, programs and guidelines development.Attend industry, broker and customer events and functions.Model behaviors that demonstrate commitment to corporate values.Provide guidance,



mentorship and support for team members.Manage personal development and engage in business travel as required.Work extended hours during peak periods and maintain predictable attendance.Maintain a valid driver’s license and visibility in the office as required.Job Qualifications – What You Bring To The TableRequiredUniversity degree or post‑secondary education in finance, accounting, banking (credit) or construction‑related experience.Industry and surety product knowledge, including legal and regulatory environment.Well‑developed broker network and superior understanding of broker relationship model.Experience with tight deadlines for requests and new account submissions.Effective risk assessment skills.Independent and strategic thinker with strong negotiation skills.Confident decision‑maker with attention to detail.Excellent listening, verbal, written communication, presentation and interpersonal skills.Ability to work independently or lead a team in a team-oriented environment.Effective in relationship building, active listening, needs analysis, multi‑tasking and negotiation.High level of customer service.Additional RequirementsMinimum of eight to ten years of relevant surety experience.PreferredBanking and/or construction industry experience.Developer surety experience.Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite.SalaryThe salary range for this position is $150,000 – $190,000 per year, based on skills, experience and internal equity.
