Site: West Park Healthcare Centre

Department: Musculoskeletal & Amputee Rehabilitation

Reports to: Manager

Hours: 37.5 hours per week

Wage Range: $27.19 - $28.71 per hour (start rate in accordance with collective agreement)

Shifts: Days; 0830-1630

Status: Permanent Full time

Closing Date: August 26, 2026

Position Summary
The Unit Clerk position provides clerk support to nursing and clinical staff contributing to the overall functioning of the unit(s). This includes interacting with patients, their families, visitors and volunteers.

Duties

Greet and assist patients and visitors as required.

Use computer to assist in data collection activities

Act as a key communicator with clients, families, physicians, clinicians and other related departments and services.

Distribute mail, photocopy and answer telephone.





Develop and maintain manual and/or computerized systems for tracking information. Format letters, memos and other nursing-unit related correspondence, draft and send e-mails.

Schedule appointments and assessments for patients (including equipment, space availability and transportation as required).

Ensure nursing unit(s) is adequately stocked with supplies/resources and track utilization of same.

Maintain patients’ clinical records in accordance with WPHC policy.

Be aware of conditions and measures that may affect the safety of patients, residents, students, employees, volunteers, physicians and visitors including:

Compliance with the safety standards of the hospital and applicable legislation

Identification and prevention of safety issues and problems

Taking corrective action, where possible

Attendance at safety meetings/training/updates in accordance with the Centre’s standards

Qualifications

Ability to work in a manner that exemplifies the core values of West Park: Excellence, Respect, Trust, Collaboration and Accountability.

Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent

Minimum one (1) year recent related clerical experience preferred

Robust knowledge of office practices, processes, and procedures

Previous on-the-job computer word processing/spreadsheet experience

Good data entry/keyboarding skills

Excellent organizational, time management and prioritization skills

Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Good problem-solving skills

Ability to produce high quality work in accordance with Hospital standards





Ability to work effectively and safely when dealing with stressful situations

Knowledge of Emergency Assistance Codes

Completion of a recognized post- secondary secretarial arts program at the certificate level or equivalent preferred

Strong knowledge and experience using Microsoft Office software environment (Word, Excel, Outlook, SharePoint, Teams)

Experience working in a health care setting preferred

Knowledge of Medical Terminology preferred
