THE POSITION
The position of Vice-Principal of a secondary school entails assisting the School Principal in accordance with the mandate defined by the latter in the management of the instructional, educational and administrative matters of the school.
THE RESPONSIBILITIES
Assist the School Principal in the management of the instructional, educational, and administrative matters of the school, namely:
Develop, implement, adapt, and monitor, in cooperation with the school team, Special Education programs and procedures that are compatible with the School Board’s policy, related provincial regulations as well as School Directives and/or practices.
Coordinate and participate in the IEP process, including communication with parents and school team members involved in the process, as required.
Coordinate and optimize the implementation of the Response to Intervention model and Professional Learning Communities (PLC)
Coordinate services provided to First Nations and Indigenous students
Assist, as needed, teachers, professionals and support staff who provide services to students with special needs. Report and inform the School Principal on the progress of special need students and any related issues as deemed necessary.
Provide technological leadership and assistance to optimize the use of Information Technology in the school, for both staff and students.
Facilitate staff development pertaining to information technology, create learning opportunities, provide in-service training/coaching and troubleshoot as needed.
Participate in the classroom/teacher timetable scheduling
Assist with the coordination and organization of the school’s special events or activities.
Attend various meetings
Assist in student supervision at noon hour and, as deemed necessary.
Make observations and provide feedback toward the evaluation and professional growth of staff members, as mandated by the School Principal.
Oversee the application of the school’s discipline policy, including the anti-violence program, the possible suspension of students, etc. May be required to work with individual students who have behaved inappropriately.
Assist in the development of curriculum and with the integration of new teachers.
Support the Principal in his or her absence and help to set and maintain a positive school climate. Perform other duties as assigned by the principal.
General Skills
Strong pedagogical leadership, communication and organizational skills.
Solid knowledge of information technology and recent approaches in pedagogy, with the ability to support and promote the school’s initiatives.
Sound planning, organization, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
Autonomous, resilient, and able to handle multiple tasks with a calm demeanor.
