Position Title Assistant Professor, Library Science
About the Role The School of Information Studies (ÉSIS) in the Faculty of Arts at the University of Ottawa is inviting applications for a Tenure‑Track Assistant Professor position in Library Science, beginning July 1, 2027. The successful candidate will play a vital role in a well‑established, bilingual (French‑English) program that is internationally accredited and currently serves approximately 100 students.
Duties Faculty members are expected to engage in various activities, which include:
Teaching;
Conducting research and publishing in peer‑reviewed journals;
Contributing to the university community through service;
Overseeing graduate students.
A dedication to advancing the discipline and enhancing the academic unit, including graduate programs, is required. The ideal candidate should have a well‑established research initiative that either includes securing grants from funding bodies or possesses a transparent strategy for developing an active research program. The selected candidate will be tasked with teaching graduate courses in both French and English.
Terms and Salary New Tenure‑Track position.
Salary: The starting salary for an Assistant Professor is $99,377 (according to the scale in effect as of May 1, 2025).

Required Qualifications Hold a Ph.D. in Information Science or a related discipline by July 1, 2027, along with a Master in Information Studies from an American Library Association‑accredited institution.
Ability to develop an active and innovative research program,



peer‑reviewed publications and presentations at scholarly conferences.
Ability to attract external funding.
Prior teaching experience at a higher education institution.
Excellent communication skills in French or English; French‑English bilingualism is an asset.
Active knowledge of Canada’s two official languages (French and English) is a requirement for tenure.
Ability to recruit and mentor graduate students.
Experience as a professional librarian is an asset.
