If you're passionate about these areas, we encourage you to apply.What Will You Do?Assist with the operation of the Landfill Gas management system, which includes balancing the well field, managing condensate, and coordinating with maintenance contractors and consultantsAssist with the operation of the Groundwater Diversion System and the Leachate Collection and conveyance SystemConduct monitoring activities at all Edmonton Waste Management Centre (EWMC) and other Waste Services sites (eco-stations, closed landfills) for groundwater wells, leachate wells, and perimeter gas probesTaking weekly groundwater measurements, downloading levelogger data, and collecting gas composition readings, as well as regular sampling (monthly groundwater, quarterly leachate, and waste sampling)Accurately enter data collected from inspections and monitoring into respective spreadsheetsParticipate in ENVISO and safety inspections/audits, clean and maintain lab and sampling equipment, and pick up necessary supplies and equipmentIndependently troubleshoot routine operational and monitoring issues (e.g., pump problems)Qualifications:Completion of a two (2) year Diploma in a Civil or Chemical Engineering Technologist programA minimum of two (2) years of experience in the Waste Management field, preferably in the operation of landfills,
including environmental sampling and environmental monitoring experienceMust be eligible to be recognized as a Certified Engineering Technologist (CET) with ASETSkills Required for Success:Knowledge of technical and engineering principles and practices related to landfill management and the waste industryAbility to operate and monitor environmental systems effectivelyProficiency in the use of a GEM 5000 landfill gas analyzer and water level tapeKnowledge of environmental systems (Leachate and Landfill Gas collection systems, Groundwater Diversion System, monitoring wells, stormwater ponds) and standard operating procedures and related legislationStrong organizational skills for accurate data collection and entryEffective verbal and written communication skills for sharing data with internal collaborators and external consultantsStrong independent problem-solving skills for resolving routine operational issuesAlignment to our Cultural Commitments and Leadership Competencies (https://bit.ly/4brRrXm)Embracing a culture of equity, diversity, reconciliation and inclusionConditions of Employment:Compliance with the City of Edmonton's safety standards for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
