Position Responsibilities
The Director, Public Affairs provides leadership for the City’s communications, marketing, engagement, government relations, advocacy, and executive correspondence functions. Working closely with Council, the Chief Administrative Officer, and CLT, the Director develops and implements integrated public affairs strategies that support Council priorities, strengthen the City’s reputation, ensure consistent messaging and branding, foster meaningful stakeholder and community relationships, and enhance public trust.

The position serves as the City’s senior advisor on communications, media relations, crisis communications, public engagement, and intergovernmental affairs while leading a team responsible for delivering coordinated, effective, and transparent communications that advance Council’s strategic priorities and promote a positive corporate image.

Qualifications

University degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, or a related field.

Progressive leadership experience in public affairs, communications, marketing, stakeholder engagement, government relations, or a related field.





Minimum 3-5 years experience leading professional teams and strategic initiatives.

Experience advising senior leadership and/or elected officials on communications, reputation management, public engagement, and government relations matters.

Experience leading media relations, crisis communications, issues management, and corporate branding initiatives.

Experience planning, managing, and reporting on departmental budgets and resources.

Experience leading complex projects and building collaborative relationships with government partners, community stakeholders, and external organizations.

Hours
The standardworkweek consists of an average of 40 hours, with the specific schedule beingdetermined by the immediate supervisor.

Compensation
Salary range $58.79 - $75.98 per hour as per the Out-of-Scope Agreement.
