Baycrest Hospital has an opportunity for a CLINCIAL EXTERN OCCUPATIONAL THERAPIST / PHYSIOTHERAPIST Posting Number: 9896 - 9895 Position Type: Temporary Part-Time (6 Months) Shift Type: Day Evening, some weekends (subject to change) Hours of Work: 7.5/shift Bi-Weekly Hours : minimum 15 hours Union: Non-Union Job Summary: Reporting directly to the Manager and Interprofessional Practice Chief - Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy & Therapeutic Recreation and supported by the Clinical Extern Coordinator, this ministry funded unregulated health care position will collaborate closely with the Advanced Practice Leader PT/OT and practices under the supervision of a regulated health care professional (e.g. OT, PT, RN).
The Occupational Therapy/ Physiotherapist Clinical Extern position will collaborate with the interprofessional care team in providing daily care within a supportive role through a therapeutic focus (outside of controlled acts) with the platform to develop significant clinical skills while increasing their knowledge of a hospital.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Assist with patient mobility, positioning, transfers (ex.
Bed, chair, Wheelchair, commode/toilet, supporting mechanical lift transfers) Assist with OT/PT assigned treatment plans with a functional and/or therapeutic exercise focus, individual or group based Assist with patient ambulation and utilization of appropriate assistive devices when required (cane, walker, W/C, appropriate footwear, splints) Assist with treatment intervention under supervision, Examples: Individual and group based, cognitive, range of motion that they have the knowledge, skill and judgement to do safely, excluding controlled acts.
Provides support and assigned care in collaboration with staff, and communicates with members of the interdisciplinary care team, as appropriate In partnership with patient/families and the interdisciplinary team,
assist with the provision of patient and family-centered care which is goal directed, evidence based and outcome oriented Supports and respects the patient/familys rights to make decisions based on their own values, beliefs and experiences Ensures delivery of efficient and effective unit working workplace by participating in quality improvement activities such as; Supporting social and leisure interaction activities, answering call bells and triaging patient needs, restocking supplies, cleaning/sanitizing and maintenance checks of surfaces and mobility equipment etc.
In addition to other duties as assigned.
Qualifications include but are not limited to: Proof of current enrollment in an accredited OT or PT graduate degree program Bachelors degree in health-related field is preferred Ability to work independently and as a part of the interdisciplinary team, and effectively manage challenging situations Knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel and Outlook) Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with colleagues at all levels Excellent organizational, planning and time management skills Demonstrated effective critical thinking, analytical, decision making and problem-resolution skills Interest in supporting our Geriatric population Compensation At Baycrest, we take pride in ensuring our compensation structure is internally equitable and compliant with pay equity legislation.

The pay rate for this position is $20.60 per hour.
Your placement within the target hiring range will depend on your job-related knowledge, skills, abilities, and relevant education and experience, as well as considerations such as market conditions and internal equity.
The starting salary will be determined using these factors to ensure fairness and consistency across the organization .
