Company Description Surrey Speech & Debate Society is a student-led organization dedicated to developing members’
skills in public speaking, argumentation, and critical thinking. The society provides a supportive environment where students of all experience levels can participate in debates, workshops, and competitions. It aims to foster respectful discussion on a wide range of topics, encouraging participants to analyze complex issues and express their views clearly.
The society collaborates with other student groups and external partners to offer events and learning opportunities throughout the academic year. Student volunteers play a key role in planning activities and ensuring the society runs smoothly.
Role Description The Student Volunteer role is a full-time remote position supporting the operations and events of Surrey Speech & Debate Society. Day-to-day tasks may include helping organize online meetings and debate sessions, coordinating event logistics, and maintaining explicit communication with members through email, messaging platforms, and social media. Volunteers may assist with preparing materials for workshops, updating shared documents,
and supporting outreach efforts to encourage new members to join.
The role also involves collaborating with other volunteers on small projects, attending planning meetings, and providing feedback to improve society activities. This position offers opportunities to develop organizational, communication, and leadership skills while contributing to an inclusive, student-focused community.
Qualifications
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with an interest in public speaking and debate.
- Organizational and time-management abilities to handle multiple tasks in a remote, full-time setting.
- Comfort using common digital tools (e.g., video conferencing platforms, shared documents, email, and social media).
- Ability to work collaboratively with peers, show reliability in completing agreed tasks, and respond constructively to feedback.
- Motivation to support an inclusive environment where people from diverse backgrounds feel welcome and respected.
- Enrolled student or recent student with an interest in extracurricular involvement; prior experience in clubs or volunteer roles is helpful but not required.
