About Knowledge Circle

For more than 20 years, Knowledge Circle has provided second-language training to Canadian federal public servants. We help adult professionals strengthen their workplace communication skills and prepare for the Public Service Commission of Canada’s Second Language Evaluation (SLE), including the Oral Language Assessment and the reading and written expression tests.

We are currently seeking experienced English-language instructors to join our online teaching team.

The Role

As an English as a Second Language Instructor, you will provide engaging, learner-centred virtual training to federal public servants at different proficiency levels.

Depending on the assignment, training may focus on general language development, workplace communication or preparation for the SLE, particularly oral proficiency at Levels B and C.

Our approach emphasizes natural, spontaneous and effective communication. Learners must develop the ability to understand questions, explain ideas clearly, support opinions and respond confidently to follow-up questions—not simply memorize prepared answers.

Responsibilities

- Deliver individual or group English-language training in a virtual classroom.
- Prepare learners for the PSC Second Language Evaluation, including the Oral Language Assessment and, when required, the reading comprehension and written expression tests.
- Help learners develop the communication skills required for Levels B and C.
- Use the Interaction Canada curriculum and Knowledge Circle learning materials while adapting instruction to each learner’s objectives and needs.
- Create opportunities for meaningful workplace-related discussion, explanation, narration, opinion and analysis.

- Assess learner strengths and areas for improvement and provide clear, constructive feedback.
- Monitor attendance and progress and complete required class and progress reports.
- Maintain a professional, encouraging and respectful learning environment.
- Communicate regularly with Knowledge Circle’s pedagogical and administrative teams.

Required Qualifications

- Native-level or near-native proficiency in English, with excellent oral and written communication skills.
- A university degree in education, linguistics, applied linguistics, language teaching or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
- At least one year of experience teaching English as a second language to Canadian federal public servants.
- Practical knowledge of the Public Service Commission’s Second Language Evaluation and the proficiency requirements for Levels B and C.
- Experience preparing learners for the Oral Language Assessment.
- Strong online teaching, learner-engagement and classroom-management skills.
- Ability to adapt instruction to adult professionals with different learning needs, positions and levels of proficiency.
- Reliability, professionalism and attention to administrative requirements.
- A reliable computer, high-speed internet connection, webcam and suitable professional teaching workplace.

Additional Assets

- Familiarity with the Interaction Canada curriculum.
- TESL Canada, TESOL, TEFL or another recognized language-teaching certification.
- Experience teaching executive-level or advanced learners.
- Experience providing intensive, part time, individual and group training.
- Ability to communicate in French. French is an asset but is not required.

Why Join Knowledge Circle?

- Join an established Canadian language-training provider with more than 20 years of experience.
- Work with adult professionals whose language development directly supports their careers.
- Access structured learning materials, pedagogical guidance and administrative support.
- Become part of a professional and collaborative teaching team.
- Receive virtual teaching assignments based on program needs and instructor availability.
