What will my role be? Rankin Construction Inc. is seeking an experienced
Project Coordinator & Scheduler
to support the planning, scheduling, coordination, and execution of heavy civil construction projects throughout Ontario. A key responsibility of this position will be the development, maintenance, updating, and analysis of project schedules using Oracle Primavera P6. We are specifically looking for candidates who have practical Primavera P6 scheduling experience on heavy civil, infrastructure, bridge, structural, or similar construction projects. This is not strictly an office‑based scheduling position. The successful candidate must be willing to spend time on active construction sites, work directly with Project Managers and field supervision, understand how the work is actually being constructed, and translate field conditions and construction sequencing into accurate and meaningful project schedules. Experience with bridges, structural concrete, transportation infrastructure, MTO projects, municipal infrastructure, or other heavy civil construction projects is strongly preferred.
As a Project Coordinator & Scheduler, you will:
Develop, maintain, update, and monitor detailed project schedules using
Oracle Primavera P6 .
Work with Project Managers, Superintendents, Foremen, and other project personnel to establish realistic construction sequencing, durations, milestones, and resource requirements.
Prepare and maintain baseline schedules, schedule updates, look‑ahead schedules, critical path analysis, and progress reporting.
Monitor actual project progress against the approved schedule and identify delays, schedule risks, critical activities, and upcoming constraints.
Assist Project Managers in developing recovery plans and schedule adjustments when projects fall behind planned progress.
Review project drawings, specifications, contract documents,
tender schedules, and contractual scheduling requirements.
Conduct regular site visits to verify actual construction progress and ensure project schedules accurately reflect field conditions.
Assist with project planning, cost tracking, forecasting, quantity tracking, and progress reporting.
Coordinate subcontractors, suppliers, materials, equipment, and project activities with the overall construction schedule.
Assist with procurement planning to ensure materials and subcontracted work are coordinated with upcoming project requirements.
Prepare and track RFIs, submittals, shop drawings, change documentation, site instructions, and project correspondence.
Assist with quantity take‑offs, measurements, progress quantities, and payment documentation.
Track project costs, quantities, production rates, progress, and schedule performance.
Assist with evaluating the schedule impact of changes, additional work, delays, and unforeseen site conditions.
Attend project meetings and provide schedule updates, progress information, and identification of upcoming critical activities.
Coordinate with owners, consultants, subcontractors, suppliers, field personnel, and other project stakeholders.
Maintain accurate and organized project records, schedules, drawings, reports, and correspondence.
Assist with quality control documentation, inspections, testing requirements, and project turnover documentation.
Support project health and safety requirements and Rankin Construction’s commitment to maintaining a strong safety culture.
Assist with project closeout, deficiency management, as‑built documentation, and final project records.
Perform other project coordination and scheduling duties as required.
What we’re looking for! We are looking for someone who understands that a successful construction schedule is more than dates entered into a computer.
The successful candidate must understand how heavy civil construction work is actually built and be able to work with field supervision to develop schedules that accurately represent construction sequencing, production, constraints, and project requirements.
You should be comfortable getting out on the project, speaking with the people performing the work, understanding what is happening in the field, identifying potential scheduling issues early, and helping the Project Manager and Superintendent keep the project moving forward.
We are looking for someone who is organized, dependable, technically capable, analytical, and comfortable taking ownership of project scheduling responsibilities.
